Auggies score 2-2 OT tie with No. 8 Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS -- Brenna Nakonechny (SR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) and Darby Lindgren (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies snapped a 13-season, 25-game losing streak to Gustavus Adolphus College with a 2-2 overtime tie in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• All four goals in the contest came on special teams, as Augsburg scored two power-play goals and Gustavus scored a shorthanded and a power-play goal. Augsburg was 2-for-6 on its power-play opportunities, while Gustavus was 1-for-6.
• Nakonechny tied the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal for the Auggies from Callen Naasz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and Megan Johnson (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) at the 13:10 mark of the second period. 
• Lindgren gave the Auggies a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at the 2:16 mark of the third period, tipping home a shot from the point by Johnson. Nakonechny also had an assist on the goal.
• Augsburg was outshot by a 31-27 margin by Gustavus. Both teams had three shots on-goal in overtime.
• A potential game-winning goal by Gustavus was disallowed with 14 seconds left in overtime, due to hand contact in the crease.
• Nakonechny had five shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Lindgren and Danielle Heitkamp (JR, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS) had four shots on-goal each.
Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) collected 29 saves in goal for the Auggies to earn the tie.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The tie snapped a 25-game winning streak by the Gusties in the all-time series against the Auggies, dating to the 2002-03 season. Augsburg's last win in the series was a 1-0 win on Dec. 6, 2002 at Augsburg.
• Gustavus entered the game ranked No. 8 in the USCHO.com Division III national poll.


FOR THE FOES
• Allison Eder-Zdechlik scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal at the 11:52 mark of the first period.
• Laura Johnson tied the game with a power-play goal from Kaitlyn Klein at the 5:30 mark of the third period.
• Amanda DiNella had 25 saves in goal for Gustavus.
