Auggies drop 4-1 decision at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Outshot by a 31-22 margin, the Augsburg College women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to host Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Valerie Whichello (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at the 18:14 mark of the third period, an extra-attacker goal assisted by Brenna Nakonechny (SR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) and Callen Naasz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS). 
• Naasz had five shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Danielle Heitkamp (JR, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS) and Kayla Fuechtmann (SR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had four shots each.
• Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) collected 27 saves in goal for the Auggies.


FOR THE FOES
• Allison Eder-Zdechlik had a hat trick for Gustavus. She scored two shorthanded goals in a 55-second span on an Augsburg power play late in the first period, then added an empty-net goal with 1:02 left in the third period.
• Kaitlyn Klein scored an even-strength goal for the Gusties at the 10:03 mark of the third period.
• Amanda DiNella had 21 saves in goal for Gustavus.
