Late rally falls short in Augsburg loss to Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Despite outscoring Concordia College-Moorhead 22-15 in the final frame, the Augsburg College women's basketball team fell 52-48 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Auditorium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg was able to claim a 10-8 advantage in the first quarter and a 22-15 advantage in the fourth quarter, but struggled to find its offensive rhythm in the second and third frames and was outsocred 29-16 in the middle two quarters of action.
• Augsburg was led offensively by Bridget Bednar (SO, Pierz, Minn./Pierz HS), who scored a season-high 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. She added five rebounds and a pair of steals on the afternoon.
• Maria Loughlin (SR, Rogers, Minn.) also finished with 14 points the Auggies, finishing 3-of-5 from three-point range, while pulling down four rebounds and adding a pair of assists.
Jessica Lillquist led Augsburg on the boards, grabbing a team-best seven rebounds on the day.

• For the game, Augsburg shot 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the floor, while Concordia connected on 34.7 percent (17-of-49) of its field-goal attempts.
• Concordia claimed a narrow 37-36 advantage on the boards but the real difference in the game came down to the free-throw line where Augsburg was only able to capitilize on 8-of-18, while the Cobbers finished a perfect 15-of-15.

FOR THE FOES
• Concordia finished with three players in double figures, led by Jenna Janushka, who finished with 17 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 day at the free-throw line.
• Olivia Johnson and Jamie Mentzer finished with 10 points apiece for the Cobbers.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg will take the next week off for finals and returns to action Friday (12/18) when the Auggies travel to Wisconsin to take on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
• Concordia returns to action on Saturday (1/2) when the Cobbers travel to St. Joseph, Minn. to take on Buena Vista in nonconference action.
