Auggies spread out scoring again in sweep

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second straight night, the Augsburg College men's hockey team spread out the scoring. Five different Auggies scored goals and 10 players figured in the scoring in Augsburg's 5-3 win over St. Olaf College, completing a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series sweep on Saturday evening at the Northfield Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Nate Flynn (SO, Hastings, Minn.) and Drew Anderson (SO, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) had a goal and assist each to lead Augsburg in Saturday's win, completing the conference series sweep.
• Augsburg scored twice in a 1:20 span late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. Will Peterson (SO, Eagan, Minn.) opened the scoring with a power-play goal from Luke Dietsch (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and Anderson at the 16:22 mark, followed at the 17:42 mark by a goal by Eric Brenk (FY, Moorhead, Minn.), assisted by Evan Hesse (SO, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) and Andy Faust (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS).
• St. Olaf scored midway through the second period to cut the Auggie lead to 2-1, but the Auggies struck with two more goals to take a 4-1 advantage. Flynn scored a power-play goal from Eli May (SO, Eagan, Minn.) at the 11:56 mark, and Mack Ohnsted (SR, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) scored from Flynn and Corbin Chapman (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) at the 15:30 mark.
• St. Olaf cut the lead to a goal at 4-3 midway through the third period, but Augsburg secured the win with an empty-net goal by Anderson with 51 seconds left to play.
• Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 37-35 mark.
• Jordyn Kaufer (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) had 32 saves in goal for the Auggies in the win. 


FOR THE FOES
• Patrick Sivets and Drew Otto scored in the second period for the Oles, and Peter Lindblad scored in the third period.
• Luke Andriuk had 32 saves in goal for St. Olaf.


UP NEXT
• Augsburg is now idle for the holiday break, and returns to action on Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m., hosting Lawrence (Wis.) at Ed Saugestad Rink.
• St. Olaf travels to face Wisconsin-Stout next Saturday (12/12) at 7:30 p.m.
