Auggies win 6th in last 7, 6-3 over Lawrence

MINNEAPOLIS -- Drew Anderson (SO, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) and Mack Ohnsted (SR, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) scored two goals each, lifting the Augsburg College men's hockey team to its sixth win in its last seven games and third win in a row, a 6-3 nonconference triumph over Lawrence University on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Anderson scored at the 6:49 mark of the first period, assisted by Luke Dietsch (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS), and at the 16:51 mark of the first period, a power-play goal from Lukas Gillett (FY, Rosemount, Minn.) and Lucas Hendrickson (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS). Anderson also had an assist for a three-point evening.
• Ohnsted scored the final two goals of the game for the Auggies -- a shorthanded goal from Eli May (SO, Eagan, Minn.) and Rory Vesel (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) at the 12:54 mark of the third period, and a power-play goal from Corbin Chapman (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) and Vesel with 1:38 remaining in the game.
• In all, 11 different Auggies figured in the scoring, with Vesel recording three assists and May collecting a goal and an assist. May scored at the 10:26 mark of the first period, a power-play goal from Drew Allen (SR, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) and Vesel at the 10:26 mark of the first period.
• Max Pernhem (SO, Stockholm, Sweden/Dragonskolan) had the other Auggie goal, a shortanded goal during a five-minute Augsburg major penalty at the 17:02 mark of the second period, assisted by Anderson and Nate Flynn (SO, Hastings, Minn.).
• Augsburg outshot Lawrence by a 36-34 margin in the game. Dietsch had five shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Dylan Meier (JR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) had four shots.
• Jordyn Kaufer (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) had 31 saves in goal for the Auggies in the win. 


FOR THE FOES
• Brandon Boelter scored two power-play goals for the Vikings, a marker at the 13:21 mark of the first period from Brad Mueller and Matt Moore, and a marker at th e15:59 mark of the second period from Sean Reynolds and Layne King.
• Steve Hughes opened the scoring at the 2:36 mark of the first period, scoring from Renalto Engler.
• Mattias Soderqvist had 30 saves in goal for Lawrence.


UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to MIAC play next weekend with a series against Bethel. Friday's (1/8) game is at 8:05 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and Saturday's (1/9) game is at 7 p.m. at the Schwan SuperRink in Blaine, Minn.
