Augsburg drops close game to Gustavus

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball suffered a hard-fought loss to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Despite scoring more field goals (22-to-20), claiming an advantage in rebounds (34-to-33) and committing less turnovers (22-to-21), the difference in the game came down to the free throw line where Gustavus was able to convert on 15-of-22, while Augsburg was only able to score 7-of-12. The game featured six tied scores and two lead changes and was a two-point game with just over three minutes to play. Unfortunately the Auggies weren't able to pull out the win as Gustavus claimed the 59-54 victory.
Allison McKee (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) led the offense with an Augsburg-career-high 14 points, while adding a team-high four assists, four rebounds and two steals. Maria Loughlin also finished with 14 points for the Auggies, while adding three assists and three steals.
Bridget Bednar (SO, Pierz, Minn./Pierz HS) also finished in double figures for Augsburg, posting 10 points and four rebounds. Marie Fitzgerald (SR, Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson HS) led the Auggies on the boards with a season-high eight rebounds, while adding four points and a team-high four steals.

• For the game, Augsburg shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the floor, while Gustavus connected on 44.4 percent (20-of-45) of its field-goal attempts. 
• Augsburg claimed a 30-24 advantage in points in the paint and a 12-6 advantage in second chance points.

FOR THE FOES
• Gustavus finished with two players in double figures, led by Mikayla Miller, who finished with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor.
• Miranda Rice also finished in double figures for the Gusties, posting 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor.
