Auggies finish sweep with 5-1 win over Oles

MINNEAPOLIS -- Callen Naasz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) scored two goals and added an assist, leading the Augsburg College women's hockey team in a 5-1 win and a series sweep of St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Naasz assisted on Augsburg's first goal in the first period, scored a goal at the 9:21 mark of the second period, then scored an unassisted goal 38 seconds into the third period. She now has a team-best six points (three goals, three assists) on the season.
Claire Cripps (SR, Hutchinson, Minn.) put the Auggies on the board first, tipping home a shot from the point by Sarah Buckner (SR, Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) 5:43 into the game.
• Naasz scored her first goal off assists from Abigail Dickinson (SR, Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS) and Taral Clayton (SO, Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS). The Oles cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal just 1:13 later, but Naasz gave the Auggies another cushion with her goal early in the third period.
Megan Johnson (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) scored from Darby Lindgren (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) and Megan Robertson (SO, Boissevain, Manitoba) at the 4:06 mark of the third period. Johnson, Lindgren and Naasz share the team's lead in goals with three each.
• Augsburg capped the scoring at the 10:13 mark of the final frame, with Bridge Walter (FY, Princeton, Minn.) scoring her first collegiate goal, assisted by Brenna Nakonechny (SR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS).
• St. Olaf outshot Augsburg by a 30-28 margin in the game. Lindgren had five shots on-goal and Danielle Heitkamp (JR, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS) had four shots.
Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) collected 25 saves in goal in 54:27 of work for the Auggies. McKenna Manalli (FY, Byron, Ill.) made her collegiate debut for the Auggies in the final 5:31 of play, collecting four saves.


FOR THE FOES
• St. Olaf's lone goal came at the 10:34 mark of the second period, as Megan Skelly scored from Lainie Baldwin.
• Haley Sampson had 23 saves in goal for St. Olaf.

• Augsburg is now idle for the holiday break. Augsburg returns to action on the weekend of Jan. 2-3, when it hosts St. Norbert (Wis.) in a nonconference series at Ed Saugestad Rink.
