Auggies shut out Oles 4-0

MINNEAPOLIS -- Callen Naasz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) scored two goals, leading Augsburg College to a 4-0 triumph over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 4, St. Olaf 0
LOCATION: Ed Saugestad Rink, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 8-11-5 overall (6-7-4 MIAC), St. Olaf 1-20-3 overall (0-13-3 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Naasz scored the first and last goals for the Auggies, scoring at the 11:42 mark of the second period on an assist by Claire Cripps (JR, Hutchinson, Minn.), and scoring an unassisted goal at the 18:14 mark of the third period.
• Darby Lindgren (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scored for the Auggies at the 14:30 mark of the second period, assisted by Rachel Hennessy (SR, Williston, N.D.) and Ashley Kloncz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS).
• Kayla Fuechtmann (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) gave the Auggies a 3-0 lead with her team-leading 10th goal of the season, scoring at the 4:53 mark of the third period from Cripps and Danielle Heitkamp (SO, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS).
• Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 43-17 margin in the game, including a 19-7 advantage in the second period. The 43 shots were a season-high for the Auggies, and the second straight game in which Augsburg has recorded 40-plus shots on-goal.
• Erika Allen (JR, Roseville, Minn.) stopped all 17 shots she faced to claim her third shutout of the season for the Auggies, and ninth of her collegiate career.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Despite the victory, Augsburg (16 league points) was eliminated from contention for a spot in the five-team MIAC postseason playoffs due to potential tiebreaker criteria. Bethel clinched a seed in the playoffs with its 4-2 win over Gustavus on Friday, now holding 19 league points. Should Augsburg win over St. Olaf on Saturday (2/21) and Saint Mary's (18 points) lose to Hamline, Saint Mary's would have the tiebreaker advantage over Augsburg. The teams split their regular-season series, but Saint Mary's would claim the second playoff tiebreaker, with eight league wins compared to Augsburg's seven. The same tiebreaker criteria would also apply if there was a three-way tie with 18 points between Augsburg, Saint Mary's and St. Catherine.
• Fuechtmann's 10 goals this season put her in a tie for sixth place in goals
among MIAC players in overall statistics.
• Cripps' 12 assists this season put her in a tie for fifth place in the category among MIAC players in overall statistics.
• The game was the final home contest at Ed Saugestad Rink for four Augsburg seniors -- Hennessy, Kendall Christian (SR, Moorhead, Minn.), Ellie Schaaf (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) and Brianna Schulz (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.).

FOR THE FOES
• Cassie Alexander had 39 saves in goal for St. Olaf.
• Jane Vezina had four shots on-goal for the Oles, while Riley Anderson had three shots and Megan Skelly had two shots.
