Augsburg falls at Concordia but will get rematch Tuesday

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Abbey Luger (SR, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) led the Augsburg College women's basketball team with 16 points in a 69-53 loss to Concordia College Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Auditorium. By virtue of their victory over St. Benedict on Wednesday, the Auggies clinched the sixth and final playoff spot and will return to Moorhead on Tuesday for a rematch with the Cobbers in the MIAC quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Despite one of their best shooting performances of the season, and despite outscoring the Cobbers in the second half, the Auggies could not keep up with Concordia who hit seven 3-pointers in the opening frame, and fell 69-53 in the season finale. 
• Luger led the Auggie offense with 16 points, while adding three rebounds and three assits.
• Jessica Lillquist (JR, Sebeka, Minn./Sebeka HS) finished with 14 points on a 5-of-8 shooting afternoon, which included a perfect 4-for-4 showing at the free throw line.
Bridget Bednar (FY, Pierz, Minn./Pierz HS) also finished in double figures for the Auggies, posting 12 points, while shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor and adding four rebounds.
• Augsburg posted its third-best shooting performance of the season, converting on 46.7 percent (21-of-45) of its shot attempts, while Concordia also shot well on the afternoon, hitting 49.0 percent (25-of-51) from the floor.
• The Cobbers claimed a 29-23 advantage on the boards.


FOR THE FOES
• Concordia finished with three players in double figures, led by Alley Fisher, who finished with 16 points and six assists.
• The Cobbers shot an impressive 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from 3-point range.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Despite the loss, Augsburg secured its first-ever birth in the MIAC playoffs. The Auggies earned the sixth seed in the tournament and will return to Moorhead on Tuesday for a rematch with the Cobbers in the MIAC quarterfinals.
• Should Augsburg prevail on Tuesday, the Auggies would travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on No. 1 seed St. Thomas on Thursday at 7 p.m..
• The Auggies claimed a 59-50 victory over the Cobbers in Minneapolis on Jan. 17, 2015 and will look to claim the advantage in the season series with a victory over the Cobbers on Tuesday.
