MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's lacrosse capped the opening weekend of its second season of action with a split of a pair of games on Sunday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.


THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg opened action on Sunday with a 22-9 win over Loras College (Iowa), then fell 20-6 to Carthage College (Wis.) in the second game of the day.
• Shelby Brion (SO, Clearwater, Minn./Monticello HS) and Delaney Everett (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) each scored five goals with two assists for seven points on the day. Everett had all her points in the win over Loras, while Brion scored four goals with two assists against Loras, then added a goal in the loss to Carthage.
• Dezera Sieracki (SO, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS) and Ashley Pettipiece (FY, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) each had four goals and an assist on the day. Both scored two goals in each game. Helena Nguyen (FY, Maple Grove, Minn.) also had a five-point day, scoring three goals with two assists, including a two-goal effort against Loras.
• Lexi Halvorson (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) scored two goals in the win over Loras, with Marissa Guillou (SO, Clearwater, Minn./Monticello HS) and Natalie Shaw
 (SO, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) also scoring goals.
• Against Loras, Augsburg outshot the Duhawks by a 45-20 margin, including a 30-8 margin in the second half, where the Auggies outscored the Duhawks by a 14-4 margin. Augsburg had 21 draw controls to Loras' 12 in the game.
• Against Carthage, Augsburg was outshot by a 35-24 margin. Carthage pulled away from the Auggies in the second half, with an 11-2 goals advantage.
• Guillou had 14 saves in 86 minutes of action in goal for Augsburg in the two games, while Sarah Hochman (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) made her collegiate debut in goal against Loras, with three saves in 34 minutes.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Brion now has a team-best eight points (team-best six goals, two assists), while Everett has seven points (five goals, two assists) and Pettipiece has six points (five goals, one assist).

• Augsburg outscored its three opponents on the weekend by a 57-53 margin, while having a 118-115 advantage in shots.

FOR THE FOES
• Kaitlyn Kutsch scored four goals to lead Loras in the loss to the Auggies.
• Madison Griffin had five goals for Carthage, while Hannah Bellenbaum, Elizabeth Wittenborg and Rachel Mussell had four goals each.
