Auggies drop 2-0 result to Cardinals

MINNEAPOLIS -- Erika Allen (JR, Roseville, Minn.) had 26 saves in goal for Augsburg College in the Auggies' 2-0 loss to visiting Saint Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg outshot Saint Mary's by a 31-28 margin in the contest, but could not get the puck past Saint Mary's goalie Marah Shields, who picked up the shutout win.
Rachel Hennessy (SR, Williston, N.D.) had six shots on-goal to lead Augsburg, while Danielle Heitkamp (SO, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS) had four shots.
Ashley Kloncz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS), Halie Gudmonson (SO, Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), Megan Robertson (FY, Boissevain, Manitoba) and Callen Naasz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had three shots each.
• Augsburg remains in the hunt for a spot in the five-team MIAC posteason playoffs. With four conference games remaining in the regular season, Augsburg sits in a tie for sixth place with 12 league points, just a point behind fifth-place Bethel's 13 points.


FOR THE FOES
• Jane Hannula gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 5:09 mark of the second period, assisted by Molly Abraham and Jesse Cwik.
• Kassie Lien scored a shorthanded goal, assisted by Kayla Pierson, at the 3:13 mark of the third period.
• Marah Shields had 31
 saves in goal for Saint Mary's.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a series against Hamline next weekend. Next Friday's (2/13) game is at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and next Saturday's (2/14) game is at 7 p.m. at Oscar Johnson Arena in St. Paul, Minn.
