Auggies drop 2-0 result to Cardinals

MINNEAPOLIS -- Erika Allen (JR, Roseville, Minn.) had 26 saves in goal for Augsburg College in the Auggies' 2-0 loss to visiting Saint Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg outshot Saint Mary's by a 31-28 margin in the contest, but could not get the puck past Saint Mary's goalie Marah Shields, who picked up the shutout win.
• Rachel Hennessy (SR, Williston, N.D.) had six shots on-goal to lead Augsburg, while Danielle Heitkamp (SO, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS) had four shots.
• Ashley Kloncz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS), Halie Gudmonson (SO, Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), Megan Robertson (FY, Boissevain, Manitoba) and Callen Naasz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had three shots each.
• Augsburg remains in the hunt for a spot in the five-team MIAC posteason playoffs. With four conference games remaining in the regular season, Augsburg sits in a tie for sixth place with 12 league points, just a point behind fifth-place Bethel's 13 points.

FOR THE FOES
• Jane Hannula gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 5:09 mark of the second period, assisted by Molly Abraham and Jesse Cwik.
• Kassie Lien scored a shorthanded goal, assisted by Kayla Pierson, at the 3:13 mark of the third period.
• Marah Shields had 31 saves in goal for Saint Mary's.
