Olmscheid leads Auggies to season sweep over Gustavus

MINNEAPOLIS -- Collin Olmscheid (FY, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) led all players with 24 points for Augsburg College in a key 63-59 victory over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday evening at Si Melby Hall. The victory gives Augsburg a sweep over Gustavus for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg jumped out to a quick 11-4 lead to start the game. Despite never trailing the Gusties, Augsburg was never able to extend its lead to double digits, as the two evenly matched teams battled to the end. Gustavus had a chance at a layup to pull within one in the final 10 seconds but wasn't able to convert and Augsburg hit 1-of-2 from the free-throw line in the final seconds to earn the hard-fought victory.
• Olmscheid nearly matched his career-high, finishing with a game-high 24 points on an 8-of-14 shooting performance.
• Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) recorded his first career point-rebound double-double for the Auggies, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while adding three assists.
• 
Joe Zangel (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) posted his third consecutive double-digit scoring performance, recording 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
• Augsburg had its second-best shooting performance of the year, connecting on 51.0 percent (25-of-49) from the field, while Gustavus connected 48.1 percent (26-of-54) of its shots.
• The Auggies claimed a 31-26 advantage on the boards.
• Augsburg outscored Gustavus 38-28 in points in the paint and 12-5 in points off turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• Gustavus finished with three players in double figures, led by Martin Feddersen and Chad Poppen, who finished with 12 points apiece.
• The Gusties claimed a 22-9 advantage in bench scoring.
