Auggies fall in extra innings to Concordia-Chicago

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Tyler "Jonesy" Buescher (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) went 3-for-6 from the leadoff spot, scoring a run for Augsburg College, but an eight-run 11th inning spelled doom for the Auggies in a 13-6 loss to Concordia University-Chicago in a Tucson Invitational Games baseball contest on Saturday evening at the Kino Athletic Complex.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg rallied from a 5-1, seventh-inning deficit to tie the game at 5-5 after nine innings, but Concordia scored eight runs in the top of the 11th inning, sending 12 batters to the plate and collecting five hits.
• Augsburg scored a run in the bottom of the 11th inning, as Josh Marlowe (SO, North St. Paul, Minn.) hit a triple to drive in Andrew Julkowski (JR, Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS), but it was the only hit the Auggies could collect in the final frame.
• Augsburg scored a run in the fifth inning, as Buescher led off the inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Gordon Kappers (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS). Billy Brookshaw (JR, Prescott, Wis.) hit a one-out triple in the seventh inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Duffy (SO, Fridley, Minn./DeLaSalle HS).
• In the eighth inning, Abe Welckle (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) led off the inning with a single, Rhett Hebig (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) reached on a fielder's choice following an error, and both came across as Brookshaw reached on a fielding error.
• In the bottom of the ninth, Augsburg tied the game on an RBI double by Welckle, plating pinch runner Jordan DeCroock (FY, Farmington, Minn.).
• Tanner Oakes (SR, Jordan, Minn.) struck out four while not walking a batter in six innings of pitching for the Auggies, with Steven Piette (JR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and Ryan Minder (SR, Maplewood, Minn./Roseville HS) pitching in relief.
• Pruszinske went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Auggies, while Welckle had two hits and an RBI.

FOR THE FOES
• Joe Silva went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI for Concordia, while Doug Matthews went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. Rich Santarelli went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI, and Steve Zubrzycki and Mitch Wilson each had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
