Auggies drop opener in Pacific Northwest

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Augsburg College women's lacrosse team opened its Spring Break trip to the Pacific Northwest with a 14-3 loss to the University of Puget Sound in a nonconference contest on Saturday evening at Peyton Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Puget Sound outshot Augsburg by a 38-24 margin, including a 22-12 advantage in the first half, in which the Loggers built an 8-2 lead.
Helena Nguyen (FY, Maple Grove, Minn.) scored Augsburg's first goal, an unassisted marker 6:02 into the game. Delaney Everett (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored on a free-position shot with 2:55 to go in the first half.
• Jesse Heusinkveld (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored the Auggies' final goal on a free-position shot with 15:31 left in the second half.
Sarah Hochman (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) played in goal in the first half for the Auggies and had 12 saves, while Katie Luschwitz (SO, Whitney Point, N.Y.) had five saves in the second half.
• Lexi Halvorson (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had four ground balls and two draw controls for the Auggies. Hochman and Emily Wirtz (SO, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) had three ground balls each.
• Augsburg converted on 11-of-20 clearing attempts, while Puget Sound converted 14-of-15 clears. Augsburg had 28 turnovers in the game, compared to Puget Sound's 20.


FOR THE FOES
• Olivia Keene scored five goals for Puget Sound, while Caroline Cook had three goals. Maddie Soukup had two goals and two assists.
• Hailey Palmore had 12 saves in goal for the Loggers.
