Auggies close Arizona trip with split

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Billy Brookshaw (JR, Prescott, Wis.) went 5-for-9 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI, leading the Augsburg College baseball team in its final set of games at the Tucson Invitational Games, an 8-7 win over Macalester and a 7-4 loss to Luther on Friday at the Kino Athletic Complex.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS
• Abe Welckle (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) went 4-for-8 with three doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.
• Scott Livermore (JR, Stillwater, Minn.) went 3-for-7 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

MACALESTER GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg rallied from a 4-0, first-inning deficit to claim the victory, scoring two runs in the fourth inning, three runs in the sixth and three runs in the eighth.
• Brookshaw went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Wekclke went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Livermore went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
• An RBI single by Welckle and a fielder's choice RBI by Tyler Ellefson (JR, Hutchinson, Minn.) gave the Auggies two runs in the fourth.
• Welckle and Rhett Hebig (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) each hit RBI doubles, and Livermore hit a run-scoring single in the sixth inning.
• Brookshaw hit a thre-run double to account for Augsburg's runs in the eighth inning.
• Hebig and Andrew Julkowski (JR, Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS) scored two runs each for the Auggies.
• Lincoln Hochmuth (SO, Cannon Falls, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) picked up the pitching win, with two strikeouts in three innings of relief.

LUTHER GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg's Gordon Kappers (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) scored following an error in the first inning.
• Welckle hit a double and scored on a groundout by Hebig in the fifth inning.
• The Auggies scored twice in the eighth inning. Hebig walked, moved to third on a double by Livermore, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler "Jonesy" Buescher (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.). Livermore scored on a single by Kappers.
• Luther scored twice in the first inning, twice in the sixth inning, a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to claim the win.
• Tyler Flakne (SR, Fridley, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) struck out three while walking one in six innings of pitching, with Luke Chinn (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) pitching two innings of relief.

FOR THE FOES
• For Macalester, Sam Berk went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
• For Luther, Carlos Pineda went 4-for-5 with two doubles adn three RBI, and Mitch Knippenberg went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored.
