Augsburg drops doubleheader to Carleton

MINNEAPOLIS -- Billy Brookshaw (JR, Prescott, Wis.) went 6-for-11 at the plate with two doubles and four RBI, leading the Augsburg College baseball team in a doubleheader against Carleton College on Monday evening at Parade Stadium. Carleton claimed a sweep of the Auggies with 11-7 and 11-6 wins.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS
• Brookshaw went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI in the first game, and 3-for-6 with a double, RBI and a run scored in the second game.
• Scott Livermore (JR, Stillwater, Minn.) went 5-for-7 at the plate with three runs scored, and Gordon Kappers (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) went 5-for-9 with three RBI and a run scored.
• Jack Duffy (SO, Fridley, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) had four hits with two runs scored and an RBI in the doubleheader.


GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Carleton built a 9-0 lead in the fifth inning before Augsburg scored seven runs in the final three innings of the seven-inning first game. Augsburg had eight hits, but stranded 11 runners on base.
• Livermore went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the game.
• Brookshaw hit a two-run double in the sixth inning, and had a run-scoring single in the seventh inning. Kappers hit a two-run single in the fifth inning.
• Steven Piette (JR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) struck out three in 4.2 innings of pitching work, with Chris Bambenek (SR, St. Charles, Minn.) and Lincoln Hochmuth (SO, Cannon Falls, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) pitching in relief.


GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four runs on six hits in the first inning, but could only manage two more runs in the fifth inning.
• Augsburg had 18 hits, but stranded 16 runners on base in the game.

• Abe Welckle (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) hit a two-run single, and Kappers and Duffy had run-scoring singles in the four-run first inning.
• Tyler "Jonesy" Buescher (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) drove in a run on a groundout and Brookshaw plated a run on a single in the fifth inning.
• Tanner Oakes (SR, Jordan, Minn.) struck out five while walking one in eight-plus innings of work, with 80 strikes on 109 pitches. Ryan Mestnik (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) had two strikeouts against a walk in an inning of relief.


FOR THE FOES
• Cody Bohlman and Nolan Baker had five hits each for Carleton in the doubleheader, with Baker driving in seven runs and Bohlman driving in four. Baker had a three-run double and three-run home run in the first game, while Bohlman hit a two-run homer in the second game.
• Jack Atterberry had four hits, including two doubles, while Willie Freimuth had three hits in the doubleheader, including two 2-run singles in the second game. Jordan Zoellmer and Hayden Tsutsui had three hits each in the doubleheader.
• Thaddeus Gregory had four strikeouts in seven innings of pitching work in the second game, with Josh Johnson earning a two-inning save with a strikeout.
