Augsburg scores sweep of Northwestern-St. Paul

ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- The Augsburg College softball team tallied two wins Saturday afternoon against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul Eagles in nonconference action at Reynolds Field.   

THE BASICS
GAME SCORES: Augsburg 4, Northwestern 3; Augsburg 8, Northwestern 0
LOCATION: Reynolds Field, Roseville, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 6-14 overall, Northwestern 0-18 overall

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to score the 4-3 win in the first game.
• Augsburg plated its first two runs of the game in the fifth inning, off Lindsay Helbach's (SR, Amherst, Wis.) two-run home run. It was Helbach's lone at-bat of the game.
• Augsburg's two runs in the sixth inning came from a fielder's choice and an error. 
• The Auggies' four runs came from six hits and two Northwestern errors.
• Sarah Buckner (JR, Duluth, Minn./East HS) finished the first game going 2-for-2, including a double and two walks. 
• Bekka Kelly (SR, Columbia Heights, Minn.), Haley Larson (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.), and Jenna Orth (JR, Melrose, Minn.) each hit a double going 1-for-3, and all came around to score. 
• Helbach threw 7.0 innings to pick up the pitching win, surrendering just one earned run as the Auggies commited four errors. 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The second game of the doubleheader was dead locked in a tie at 0-0 for the first six innings. The Auggies put on their rally caps and plated eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the decision of the game in their hands.
• Courtney Larson pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and walking three. 
• Augsburg's eight runs in the seventh inning came on four hits -- a single by Orth, a single by Buckner, a Jacquline Nicols (FY, Royalton, Minn.) double, and a Helbach double -- and four walks. 
• The Auggies finished the second game with eight hits -- two doubles and six singles -- and seven walks. 
• Augsburg also stole five bases and was not caught stealing once. 


FOR THE FOES
• Northwestern-St. Paul was led by Megan Threlkeld going 3-for-6 from the dish.
• Kaylee Forcier also finished with three hits in the doubleheader, finishing 3-for-6.


UP NEXT
• The Augsburg dome will be coming down on Monday, and the softball team will take the field in an outdoor doubleheader for the first time on its home field in the 2015 season on Tuesday (3/31) at 3:30 p.m. against Hamline in a MIAC doubleheader.
