Auggies drop a pair to Hamline

BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College softball team got swept Monday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field on a Minnesota Intercollegiete Athletic Conference matchup against the Hamline Pipers.

THE BASICS
GAME SCORES: Hamline 8, Augsburg 6; Hamline 10, Augsburg 0
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minnepolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 6-16 overall (0-4 MIAC), Hamline 11-5 overall (4-0 MIAC)

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Hamline did its damage in the middle innings, while the Auggies put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh that fell one hit short of tying the game. The
• Lauren Torborg (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) pinch hit for Brenna Nakonechny (JR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) with the count at 2-1. Torborg like the first pitch she saw, but ended up grounding out to end the game with runners on second and third. 
• The Auggies finished with 13 hits, led by Bekka Kelly (SR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) went 3-for-4 with double. 
• Jacquline Nichols (FY, Royalton, Minn.) finished with two hits, including a home run and two RBI. 
• Lindsay Helbach (SR, Amherst, Wis.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk, while pitching a complete game surrendering eight earned runs and 15 hits. 
• Sarah Buckner (JR, Duluth, Minn./East HS) also finished with two hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The second game started with Hamline scoring one in the top of the first inning, then four in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to cap off the NCAA eight-run rule. 
• After belting out 13 hits in game one, the Auggies tallied just four in game two, and weren't able to plate a run.

• Buckner led them as the only Auggie with multiple hits, going 2-for-2, while Kelly, and Brianna Cline (FY, St. Clair, Minn.) each hit a single as well. 
• Courtney Larson (FY, Little Canada, Minn./Concordia Academy) pitched three innings giving up six hits and five earned runs, while striking out one batter.
• Helbach relieved Larson, throwing the final two innings while giving up five hits, five runs (four earned), and walking two.

FOR THE FOES
• Hamline was led by  Amanda Orrell, who finished 6-for-8 with three doubles and nine RBI.
• Jamie Rubbelke also had a nice day at the dish for the Pipers, going 5-for-6 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two walks. 
•Mary-Clare Couillard also finished with five hits, going 5-for-7 with an RBI and a walk. 

UP NEXT
• The Auggies host Concordia-Moorhead on Thursday (4/2) at 3:30 p.m. in a MIAC doubleheader.
