WINONA, Minn. -- Sarah Buckner (JR, Duluth, Minn./East HS) and Meghan Springborn (FY, Oakdale, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran)
combinded for six hits in the doubleheader to lead the Augsburg College softball team at Saint Mary's in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday. Augsburg won the first game 3-0, then lost 4-5 in the second. THE BASICSGAME SCORES: Augsburg 3, Saint Mary's 0; Saint Mary's 5, Augsburg 4LOCATION: Saint Mary's Field, Winona, Minn.RECORDS: Augsburg 9-21 overall (3-9 MIAC), Saint Mary's 12-12 overall (6-6 MIAC)GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS• Lindsay Helbach (SR, Amherst, Wis.) threw a complete game shutout for the Auggies as she scattered six hits, struck out two and walked just one batter in seven innings of work. • Helbach helped her cause at the plate as she finished 1-for-3.
• Augsburg scored its three runs on just three hits, one coming off the bat of Jacquline Nicols (FY, Royalton, Minn.) team-leading seventh homer run. It was a two-run bomb to to right field that put the Auggies up 2-0 in the first inning. Augsburg's third run came after the Cardinal's only error of the game.

Jenna Orth (JR, Melrose, Minn.) recorded the only other Auggie hit, as she went 1-for-2 in the win.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The second game saw the Auggies earn an early lead again, going up 1-0 in lighting quick fashion. Lauren Torborg (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) singled up the middle to lead-off, then Buckner singled up the middle to score Torborg and earn the RBI. Nichols follwed that up with a single of her own, and Springborn singled to third to load the bases with no outs in the first. The Cardinals got out of the jam with back to back force outs at home, then closed the inning with a putout at third. • The Auggies scored three runs in the top of the fourth, two of which came from a two-out, two RBI dboule by Buckner, then Springborn singled to add the third run of the inning and give the Auggies a 4-0 lead.
• Saint Mary's finally struck in the bottom half of the fourth with two runs, added another in the sixth, and completed the rally in the seventh with two runs, including a walk-off single to left field by Allie Borawski.
• The Auggies finished game two with nine hits, identical to Saint Mary's.
• Helbach pitched every inning of game two as well, but this time allow five runs (four earned) with two strikeouts and two walks.
• Augsburg was led at the plate by Buckner and Springborn who finished 3-for-4. Buckner added three RBIs, while Springborn finished with one.
• Brenna Cline (FY, St. Claire, Minn.) and Torborg went 1-for-4
FOR THE FOES• Kathi Opsahl finished the day going 4-for-6, while Mariah Harper went 3-for-5.• Brittney Birkhauser had a nice day at the plate in game two going 2-for-3 with two RBI in the win. UP NEXT• Augsburg returns to MIAC action on Tuesday (4/14) at 3:30 p.m., with a doubleheader at home against St. Olaf College.
