Auggies swept by Blazers in MIAC doubleheader

ST. JOESPH, Minn. -- The Augsburg College softball team dropped two games to the College of Saint Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. 

THE BASICS
GAME SCORES: Saint Benedict 8, Augsburg 2; Saint Benedict 6, Augsburg 0
LOCATION: St. Joseph, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 9-27 overall (3-15 MIAC), Saint Benedict 18-15 overall (7-8 MIAC)

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
Lindsay Helbach (SR, Amherst, Wis.) led the Auggies at the plate and in the circle in the first game of the doubleheader. Helbach only allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched.
• Unfortunately, Augsburg committed three errors leading to another six runs. 
• Helbach finished 3-for-4 with one RBI at the plate. 
• Brianna Cline (FY, St. Claire, Minn) and Brenna Nakonechny (JR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) both recorded two hits and each scored a run in the Auggie loss.  The Royals jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning, extended it in the second with six runs, then put it away in the third with four more runs.
• Meghan Springborn (FY, Oakdale, Minn./St Croix Lutheran), Haley Larson (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) and Jenna Orth (JR, Melrose, Minn.) rounded out the hitting for the Auggies as they each finished with one hit in game one. 
• Augsburg recorded 10 hits and two runs, but left 10 runners on base. 
• Jacquline Nichols' (FY, Royalton, Minn.) hot bat finally cooled off as she finished 0-for-4 with five left on base. 
• The Blazers scored their eight runs on just seven hits, and only left three on base for the game. 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies were blanked in game two, as Melissa Seldon, whoe hit a solo home run for the Blazers in game one, pitched a gem, only allowing three hits while striking out six.
Courtney Larsen pitched six innings for Augsburg, allowing six runs (two earned) and 11 hits. 
• Errors hurt the Auggies again as they tallied up four miscues, resulting in four unearned runs for the Blazers. 
• Cline, Helbach and Orth were the only Augsburg batters to record a hit, while Cline and Helbach went 1-for-3 and Orth went 1-for-2. 

• The Blazer bats stayed hot as they belted out 11 hits, while only striking out once and plating six runs to come out with their first doubleheader sweep of the season. 

FOR THE FOES
• Kim Lidstone led the Blazers at the plate in game one, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.
• Melissa Seldon went 3-for-6 on the day with a home run and one RBI, and also threw a three-hit shutout in game two.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC action on Wednesday (4/22) at 3:30 p.m., with a doubleheader at home against Gustavus Adolphus College.
• Saint Benedict travels for a MIAC doubleheader against St. Catherine University on Sunday (4/19) at 4:00 p.m.
