Auggies fall twice to Cobbers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Lauren Torborg (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) went 4-for-8 at the plate with a double, home run and two runs scored, leading the Augsburg College softball team in a doubleheader loss to Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday at Edor Nelson Field.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS
• Torborg hit a solo home run in the first game and went 3-for-4 in the second game, scoring a run.
• Lindsay Helbach (SR, Amherst, Wis.) had three hits on the day, including a double, and also pitched 13 of the 14 innings in the doubleheader for the Auggies, striking out five while walking five.


GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg surrendered seven runs in the first inning and trailed 10-1 after two innings before staging a comeback in the latter innings, scoring twice in the fourth inning and three times in the seventh.
• Sarah Buckner (JR, Duluth, Minn./East HS) hit a solo home run in the first inning for the Auggies.
• In the fourth, Meghan Springborn (FY, Oakdale, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) hit a two-run single.
• Torborg hit a solo homer to lead off the seventh inning, and an RBI double by Bekka Kelly (SR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) and RBI single by Helbach also plated runs.
• Helbach went 3-for-4 at the plate in the first game.


GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Concordia scored three runs in the first inning and another in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
• Augsburg scored all three of its runs in the third inning. Torborg doubled and scored on a double by Amanda Niznik (SO, Columbia Heights, Minn.), and Niznik and and Jacquline Nichols (FY, Royalton, Minn.) scored following a throwing error.
• Torborg went 3-for-4 for the Auggies in the second game.


FOR THE FOES
• Madison Little went 4-for-8 with two runs scored in the doubleheader for Concordia.
• Dominique Giesen went 3-for-8 in the doubleheader, hitting two home runs and driving in seven, while scoring three runs herself.
• Mackenzie McCloud and Devonie Smith also hit home runs for the Cobbers, and Ashley Tibbetts had a single, double and triple in the oubleheader, driving in three runs.

• Hillary Rotunda pitched a complete-game victory in the first game for the Cobbers, striking out three, while Abigail Haraldson had nine strikeouts in a complete-game victory in the second game.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC action on Monday (4/6) at 3:30 p.m., with a doubleheader at Carleton.
