Augsburg blanks Northwestern 2-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Andrew Julkowski (JR, Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS) went 3-for-5 and drove in a run, leading the Augsburg College baseball team in a 2-0 win over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in a nonconference game on Thursday evening at Reynolds Field.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Billy Brookshaw (JR, Prescott, Wis.) reached base on a one-out walk in the first inning, then came around to score on a double by Julkowski. Julkowski added another double later to bring his season total to 14.
• The Auggies scored their other run in the eighth inning. Jack Duffy (SO, Fridley, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) hit a two-out triple to right-center, then came around to score on an RBI single by pinch-hitter Josh Marlowe (SO, North St. Paul, Minn.).
• Six Auggie pitchers combined to hurl a seven-hit shutout, with starter Tyler Flakne (SR, Fridley, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) striking out two while walking two in the first inning, Jordan Brandt (SO, Eagan, Minn.) striking out one while not allowing a hit or walk in two innings, and Jacob Kari (FY, North Branch, Minn.) striking out two while walking one in an inning. Chris Bambenek (SR, St. Charles, Minn.), Luke Chinn (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) and Steven Piette (JR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) kept the shutout going in the final five innings.

FOR THE FOES
• Braxton Lindow went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Eagles.
• Five different pitchers threw for Northwestern, with starter Erik Nyquist going three innings, striking out two while walking three.
