Auggies split at Labor Day Tournament

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The No. 20 Augsburg College volleyball team went 2-2 in the Labor Day Tournament at Northwestern-St. Paul on Friday and Saturday. The Auggies went 2-0 Friday, beating No. 25 Coe College and the College of St. Scholastica. On Saturday, the Auggies battled in back-to-back matches, but ultimately lost both in four sets to Dominican University (Ill.) and host University of Northwestern-St. Paul to go 2-2 on the weekend.

Ashley Peper (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) recorded 78 kills (4.59 k/set) and 60 digs over the course of the tournament. Courtney Lemke (JR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe Silver Lake HS) dished out a team-high 142 assists (8.35 a/set), and added 43 digs, seven kills, three aces and three blocks. Jaelyn Arndt finished with 33 kills (1.94 k/set), while Jessica Lillquist recorded 30 (1.76 k/set). Tabby Roh led the Auggie defense at the net with 13 blocks (one solo), Lillquist chipped in 11 blocks (two solo), and Arndt recorded 10 (three solo). DeeDee Maier (JR, Middleton, Wis.) recorded six service aces, and 54 digs, while Macey Terhell (FY, Osceola, Wis.) finished with 77 digs. Morgan Malley (FY, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) finished with 34 assists and 23 digs in the tournament.

Friday, Sept. 4

MATCH 1 -- Augsburg def. Coe 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 20-25, 25-22)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ashley Peper (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) recorded her first kill-dig double double of the season with 17 kills and 16 digs to lead the Auggies to the four-set victory.
• Jaelyn Arndt (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) finished with 10 kills and five blocks (1 solo).
• Other Auggies to record kills were Jordan Weeding (SO, Greenfield, Minn./Rockford HS) with eight, Jessica Lillquist (SR, Sebeka, Minn.) with seven, Tabby Roh (JR, La Crosse, Wis./Central HS) with seven, and Taylor Linn (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) with five. 
• Lillquist led Augsburg with six blocks (one solo), while Roh finished with four blocks and Weeding blocked three Coe attacks. 
• Courtne Lemke (JR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) finished with 28 assists and nine digs, while Morgan Malley (FY, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) dished out 18 assists and added eight digs. 
• Macey Terhell (FY, Osceola, Wis.) led all players with 17 digs, while DeeDee Maier (JR, Middleton, Wis.) chipped in 11 and finished with two service aces. 


FOR THE FOES
• Mackenzie Harbaugh led all players with 29 assists, and chipped in eight digs and two blocks. 
• No Coe players finished with a double digit kill total, but two finished with nine, Olivia Leisinger and Brianna Smith. Meghan McClimon had Coe's best hitting percentage (.172) and finished with eight kills. 
• Madi Miller led Coe with 14 digs. 


MATCH 2 -- Augsburg def. St. Scholastica 3-2 (19-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-14, 15-12)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ashley Peper recorded her second kill-dig double double of the day, with a monster performance in Augsburg's five-set win. Peper finished with 24 kills while hitting .417 and 21 digs. 
• Courney Lemke led all players with 42 assists, and chipped in 14 digs and three kills.
• Jaelyn Arndt and Jessica Lillquist each recorded 12 kills and three blocks (one solo) for the Auggies. 
• Macey Terhell led all players with 23 digs, while DeeDee Maier recorded 19 digs, two aces, three kills, and two assists. 
• Morgan Malley dished out 10 assists and added six digs. 


FOR THE FOES
• Kortney Morrin led the Saints with 19 kills and 19 digs. 
• Noelle Elvehjem recorded nine kills, while Alex Barsody and Danielle Benusa finished with 21 and 17 digs respectively. 
• Emily Kesller and Emily Jansen split the setter duties and finished with 23 and 20 assists respectively. 

 
Saturday, Sept. 5

MATCH 3 -- Dominican def. Augsburg 3-1 (25-16, 24-26, 25-21, 25-22)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies lost for the first time in 2015 after a four set battle with Dominican University (Ill.). Dominican improved to 5-1, while Augsburg dropped to 3-1. 
• Ashley Peper recorded her third straight kill-dig double double with 20 kills and 10 digs, but it wasn't enough as the Auggies hit just .121 as a team with 25 attack errors. 
• Augsburg finished with five service aces, led by DeeDee Maier with two, but the Stars doubled that total as they recorded 10.
• Courtney Lemke dished out 31 assists, adding 10 digs, a service ace and a kill.
• Jessica Lillquist tallied six kills, while four other Auggies finished with four -- Tabby Roh, Jaelyn Arndt, Taylor Linn, and Jordan Weeding. 
• Roh added three blocks, while Peper chipped in two. 
• Macey Terhell and Maier led the Auggie defense with 15 digs each, while Morgan Malley finished with nine digs, and six assists. 


FOR THE FOES
• Three Stars finished with double digit kill totals -- Carri Chambers (20), Maddi Zanoni (11), and Alex Kisten (10). 
• Christina Wilson led all players with 43 assists, and added 12 digs. Carri Chambers added 18 digs, as did Caitlen Foote. 


MATCH 4 -- Northwestern def. Augsburg 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg was tasked with finishing the Labor Day Tournament with back to back matches, and the finale came against host, Northwestern-St. Paul. After the Auggies stole set one, fatigue set in, and the Eagles swept the next three sets to win in four.
• Errors proved to be the difference for the second game of the day for Augsburg as they finished with 21 attack errors, 10 serve receive errors, and eight service errors. 
• Leading the Auggie attack was Ashley Peper with 17 kills on 54 attacks attempts. Peper earned her fourth kill-dig double double in a row by adding 13 digs. 
• Jaelyn Arndt finished with seven kills and two blocks (one solo), while Tabby Roh recorded six kills and five blocks (one solo).
• Jordan Weeding and Jessica Lillquist each tallied five kills with solid hitting percentages, .300 and .556 respectively. 
• Courtney Lemke led all players with 41 assists, and added 10 digs, three kills, two blocks and a service ace. 
• Macey Terhell recorded 22 digs and two aces


FOR THE FOES
• Kaelyn Kilbo and Lizzy Jonas dished out 30 and 20 assists respectively. 
• Leading the Eagle attack were Leesa Hulstrand with 14 kills, Lydia Palkert with 13 kills, and Lindsey Peterson with 10. 
• Peterson added five service aces,14 digs, and a solo block.
