Auggies claim 66-62 victory at Bethel

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team posted an important 66-62 road victory over the Bethel University Royals in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening at the Robertson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggie victory snapped a 15-game home winning streak for the Royals, dating back to Jan. 19, 2015.
• In a close game from start to finish, where neither team was able to push their lead to double-digits, Augsburg was able to capitalize on its free throws to seal the victory. Augsburg finished 18-of-26 from the charity stripe, while Bethel connected on just 2-of-4.
• Augsburg was led offensively by outstanding performances from Brett Rasmussen (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS), Joe Zangel (SR, Richfield, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) and Collin Olmscheid (SO, Buffalo, Minn.).
• Rasmussen led the Auggies with a season-high 20 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. Zangel nearly finished with his second double-double of the season, scoring 17 points while adding nine rebounds and three assists. Olmscheid led all players with 12 rebounds, while adding 16 points, marking his second double-double of the season.

• For the game, Augsburg shot 46.9 percent (23-of-49) from the field, while Bethel shot 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the floor. Augsburg posted a 37-30 advantage on the boards and outscored the Royals 15-9 in points off turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• Bethel was led by offensively by Brycen Wojta and Bridgeport Tusler, who finished with 20 and 18 points respectively.
• Derek Magnuson led the Royals on the boards, pulling down nine rebounds, while adding eight points and a blocked shot.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (1/16) at 3 p.m., when the Auggies travel to Collegeville to take on Saint John's University.
