Auggies dominate throughout in win at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Leading for all but 1:37 in the game, the Augsburg College women's basketball team tied its largest margin of victory of the season, scoring a 75-52 triumph over Macalester College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday evening at the Leonard Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg never trailed in the game, and the game was tied just once at 2-2. A 13-5 run gave Augsburg a 12-point lead, 24-12 with 7:14 left in the second quarter, and the Auggies' lead remained in double figures the rest of the way.
• The Auggies connected on 78.6 percent shooting (11-of-14) from the field in the second quarter, outscoring Macalester by a 27-12 margin to take a 39-19 lead at halftime. Augsburg led by as many as 24 points down the stretch. In the game, Augsburg connected on 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the field, compared to 37.8 percent (17-of-45) for Macalester.
• Fourteen different Auggies saw game action, and 12 players scored.
• Maria Loughlin (SR, Rogers, Minn.) led the Auggies with 12 points, while Bridget Bednar (SO, Pierz, Minn.) scored 11 points with three rebounds and three steals. Jessica Lillquist (SR, Sebeka, Minn.) scored 10 points with two steals.
• Jenna Orth (SR, Melrose, Minn.) pulled down a season-high nine rebounds, while scoring four points with three assists and three steals.
• Allison McKee (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored nine points with three rebounds nad three assists, and Marie Fitzgerald (SR, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) scored seven points with four assists and three rebounds.
• Hannah Steinhaus (SO, Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS) scored six points with six rebounds, and Alaina Quaranta (FY, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire North HS) scored seven points with three steals.

• Augsburg outrebounded Macalester by a 36-30 margin int he game. The Auggies also forced 24 Macalester turnovers, turning them into 26 points. The Scots scored just five points off of 15 Augsburg turnovers.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg's 23-point margin of victory tied its 69-46 win over Lewis and Clark (Ore.) on Nov. 28 for the team's largest margin of victory of the season.
• Augsburg's 49.2-percent shooting from the field marked the seventh time it has connected on better than 40 percent from the field this season.
• The game marked the 10th time Augsburg has limited its opponents to 40-percent or worse shooting from the field. 


FOR THE FOES
• Macalester was led by Erin Murray, who scored 16 points. Regan Fruh scored 14 points with six rebounds.
• Leah Gray scored 10 points with 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.
