Augsburg moves into first-place tie in MIAC

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Trevor Stewart (JR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Eastmont HS) scored two goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies moved into a tie for first place in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey standings with a 4-3 win over Concordia College-Moorhead on Friday evening at the Moorhead Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A transfer from Norwich (Vt.), Stewart claimed his first multi-goal game as an Auggie, scoring an unassisted goal at the 2:35 mark of the first period and a goal from Drew Anderson (SO, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) and Lucas Hendrickson (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) at the 6:35 mark of the third period.
• Eric Brenk (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) gave the Auggies a 2-1 lead with a goal from Dylan Meier (JR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) and Andy Faust (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) at the 12:24 mark of the second period.
• After Stewart broke a 2-2 tie with his third-period goal, Lukas Gillett (FY, Rosemount, Minn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal, a marker from Evan Hesse (SO, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) at the 10:41 mark of the final frame.

• Jordyn Kaufer (SO, Stillwater, Minn.), who played at Concordia last season before transferring to Augsburg, collected 24 saves in goal to pick up the win for the Auggies, improving to 9-4-0 on the season.
• Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 38-27 margin, including a 14-4 margin in the first period. Stewart had six shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Nate Flynn (SO, Hastings, Minn.) had five shots and Corbin Chapman (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) had four shots.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With the victory, Augsburg moved into a tie for first place in the MIAC standings with St. Thomas (9-6-2 overall, 6-2-0 MIAC), which is idle this weekend. Both teams have 18 league points, three points ahead of Concordia and Saint John's in the conference standings.
• Augsburg has now reached double digits in victories for the third straight season and sixth time in the last seven seasons under head coach Chris Brown.
• Nineteen Auggies have recorded a goal or assist so far this season, with 18 different players scoring one or more goals.
• Kaufer leads the MIAC's overall statistics in winning percentage (.692, 9-4-0 record), while standing second in goals against-average (2.45) and fourth in save percentage (.908).


FOR THE FOES
• Jon Grebosky scored at the 5:32 mark of the second period, assisted by Jeremy Johnson.
• Jake Zeleznikar scored an unassisted goal 1:56 into the third period, and Bryan Kronberger scored from Tucker Coborn with 10 seconds left in the game.
• Alex Reichle had 34 saves in goal for the Cobbers.
