Auggies stopped by hot-shooting Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Despite a career-high 23 points from Harry Sonie (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS), the Augsburg College men's basketball team fell to a hot-shooting Gustavus Adolphus College squad in a 90-76 loss in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg connected on 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the field in the game, but could not overcome Gustavus' 57.4 percent (35-of-61) shooting from the field, including 10-of-20 from three-point range.
• A 10-2 run gave the Gusties a 31-26 lead at the 6:59 mark of the first half, a lead it extended to 47-39 at halftime. Gustavus led by as many as 15 points in the second half, with the Auggies only able to cut the advantage under double-digits on four different occasions.
• Sonie's career-high 23 points also included an 11-of-13 effort from the free-throw line. He also had two assists and one rebound.
• Collin Olmscheid (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) scored 18 points, while adding a team-best seven rebounds. Olmscheid has scored in double-figures in all but one of his 16 games this season.
Brett Rasmussen (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) scored 17 points with two rebounds and two assists, marking his 14th double-digit scoring effort in his 16 games.
Richie Perea (JR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) scored five points with four rebounds and four assists, and Nick Varner (SO, Farmington, Minn.) scored six points off the bench.

• Augsburg committed just seven turnovers in the game, its second-lowest figure of the season.

FOR THE FOES
• Gustavus was paced by Brian Jacobs, who scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. He also added three assists and three blocked shots.
• Gary Cooper scored 17 points with seven rebounds and three assists.
• Chris Marum scored 12 points with six assists and two rebounds, and Peter Kruize scored 11 points.
