Oles rally past Auggies in second half

MINNEAPOLIS -- Outscoring Augsburg College by a 38-25 margin in the second half, the St. Olaf College men's basketball team rallied for a 62-56 victory over the Auggies in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg held a 31-24 advantage at halftime, but St. Olaf connected on 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from the field, compared to 31.0 percent (9-of-29) for the Auggies, while also hitting 12-of-15 from the free-throw line in the period, compared to 5-of-8 for the Auggies.
• Augsburg took back the lead on a three-pointer by Collin Olmscheid (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) with 7:35 left, but the Oles went on an 8-0 run to lead 53-46 with 5:21 remaining, a lead the Oles would not relinquish.
• Brett Rasmussen (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) led the way for the Auggies, scoring 16 points while adding four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
• Joe Zangel (SR, Richfield, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) recorded his second double-double of the season, with 10 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.
• Richie Perea (JR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) scored 10 points with two assists, two rebounds and a steal.
• Olmscheid scored nine points with two rebounds and an assist, and Harry Sonie (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) scored four points with five assists, four steals and four rebounds.

• Augsburg shot 36.4 percent (20-of-55) from the field in the game, while St. Olaf hit 44.4 percent (20-of-45). 

FOR THE FOES
• St. Olaf was led by Ben Figini, who scored 15 points with seven rebounds. Riley Aeikens scored nine points with six rebounds and three assists.
• Justin Pahl scored nine points with five rebounds, Riley Parham scored nine points, and Evan O'Dorisio scored eight points with three rebounds and three assists.
• St. Olaf's bench outscored Augsburg's bench by a 21-7 margin in the game.
