Auggies score win at MIAC-leading Saint Mary's

WINONA, Minn. -- Claiming one of her best all-around games of the season, Maria Loughlin (SR, Rogers, Minn.) scored 22 points with eight rebounds, leading the Augsburg College women's basketball team to one of its biggest victories in several years, an 82-70 win at Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leader Saint Mary's University on Wednesday evening at the SMU Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Loughlin added four assists and two steals to her 22-point night -- her fourth 20-plus-point scoring performance in her last seven games. She also connected on four 3-pointers in the game, and her eight rebounds marked a season-best effort.
• Augsburg led 20-15 after one quarter, then used a 26-13 second quarter to lead 46-28 at halftime. Augsburg led by as many as 21 points in the second half, with the advantage not dipping below 10 points.
• Augsburg shot a season-best 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the field, including a season-best 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from three-point range -- its third game connecting on eight 3-pointers this season.
• Allison McKee (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored 14 points with a season-high-tying seven assists, five rebounds and two steals. She connected on three 3-pointers.
• Jessica Lillquist (SR, Sebeka, Minn.) scored 13 points with three rebounds and two steals, while 
Bridget Bednar (SO, Pierz, Minn.) scored 12 points with three rebounds.
• Jenna Orth (SR, Melrose, Minn.) came off the bench to score nine points with three rebounds and three assists.
• Augsburg's bench outscored Saint Mary's bench by a 27-14 margin in the game.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg snapped an 11-game losing streak and five-game road losing streak to the Cardinals with Wednesday's win. Augsburg's last victory over Saint Mary's was a 69-67 win on Feb. 19, 2010 at Augsburg, and its last win in Winona was a 78-65 triumph on Jan. 18, 2010.

FOR THE FOES
• Saint Mary's was paced by Brandi Blattner, who scored 24 points with 12 rebounds. Bridget Pethke scored 10 points with eight assists and three steals.
• Emma Schaefer and Sam Jones scored eight points each, with Schaefer adding four rebounds and four assists, and Jones adding four rebounds.
