Whichello's late goal leads Auggies to OT tie

MINNEAPOLIS -- Valerie Whichello (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) tied the game for Augsburg College with nine seconds remaining in regulation time, giving the Auggies a 1-1, overtime tie with Saint Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• With the Auggies pulling their goalie for an extra attacker, Whichello scored her fifth goal of the season from Callen Naasz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) at the 19:51 mark, forcing overtime.
• Augsburg outshot Saint Mary's by a 29-18 margin in the game.
• Augsburg goalie Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) saw her scoreless streak end in the final second of the second period on a Saint Mary's goal. Her scoreless streak, including three straight shutout wins, lasted a total of 246:32 over a five-game span.
Claire Cripps (SR, Hutchinson, Minn.) had seven shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Darby Lindgren (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) had four shots.
