Auggies post key victory over Carleton

MINNEAPOLIS -- Behind his second straight 26-plus-point scoring effort, Collin Olmscheid (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) led the Augsburg College men's basketball team to an 80-68 victory over Carleton College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After leading 39-32 at the half, Augsburg was able to strectch its lead to as many as 17 points in the second half, before securing the important MIAC victory over Carleton.
• For the sixth time this season, the Auggies shot better than 50 percent from the field, finishing 30-of-59 from the floor. Augsburg now has a 5-1 record this season in games where it shoots better than 50 percent from the field. Augsburg also only committed an impressive four turnovers in the contest, the third time this season that Augsburg has committed less than 10 turnovers. The Auggies now have a 3-0 record this season in games where they commit less than 10 turnovers.
• The victory over Carleton marks the ninth consecutive win for Augsburg dating back to the 2010 season.
• Olmscheid scored a game-high 26 points, on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. He also added six rebounds and a pair of assists.
• 
Brett Rasmussen (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) posted his third consecutive double-digit scoring performance and ninth this season, putting up 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor.
• Harry Sonie (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Kevin McKiernan (FY, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) came off the bench for the Auggies to score 13 and nine points respectively, leading the Auggies to a 27-16 advantage in bench points.
• Joe Zangel (SR, Richfield, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) led the Auggies on the boards, pulling down seven rebounds while adding nine points.

• For the game, Augsburg shot 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the field, while Carleton shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the floor. Augsburg outrebounded the Knights by a 34-29 margin and posted a 40-28 advantage in points in the paint.

FOR THE FOES
• Carleton was paced by Mitchell Biewen, who scored 21 points, four rebounds and three assists. 
• Kevin Grow also finished in double figures for the Knights, posting 13 points while adding three rebounds and a blocked shot.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Monday (1/11) at 7 p.m., when the Auggies travel to the University of St. Thomas.
