Augsburg claims 7-2 triumph over Stevenson

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kayla Fuechtmann (SR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) and Megan Johnson (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) scored two goals apiece, as their Augsburg College women's hockey team dominated throughout the game in a 7-2 triumph over Stevenson University in a nonconference contest on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Twelve different Auggies figured in the scoring in the victory, with five different players scoring goals.
• Fuechtmann scored the first and last goals for Augsburg in the victory -- a goal from Abigail Fuechtmann (SR, Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS) and Claire Cripps (SR, Hutchinson, Minn.) at the 8:28 mark of the first period, then scored from Darby Lindgren (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) at the 17:04 mark of the third period.
• Johnson scored two power-play goals for the Auggies -- a goal at the 19:15 mark of the first period from Sarah Buckner (SR, Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Brenna Nakonechny (SR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS), and a goal from Ashley Kloncz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) at the 14:12 mark of the third period.
Danielle Heitkamp (JR, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS) scored from Valerie Whichello (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) at the 4:20 mark of the second period.
• Cripps scored from Taral Clayton (SO, Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) and Lindgren at the 10:35 mark of the second period, and Nakonechny scored from Callen Naasz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) at the 18:13 mark of the second period.
• Augsburg claimed a 38-19 shots-on-goal advantage over Stevenson in the contest, including a 31-13 advantage after two periods.
Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) recorded 12 saves in two periods of play in goal for the Auggies, with McKenna Malalli (FY, Byron, Ill.) recording five saves in the third period.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The seven goals are the most for Augsburg's women's hockey team in a single game since a school-record 13-0 win over Finlandia (Mich.) on Jan. 5, 2013 at Ed Saugestad Rink.
• With her two goals, Fuechtmann reached the 50-point plateau for her career. She now has 30 goals and 20 assists in 84 career games. She is now tied for 10th place in school history in career points and eighth in school history in career goals.
• Fourteen different Auggies have recorded goals or assists this season, led by Johnson's five goals and three assists for eight points. Ten different Auggies have four or more points on the year.
• After allowing just six goals in its first 12 games of the season (11-0-1), Stevenson has allowed 15 goals in its last two games -- an 8-1 loss at No. 4-ranked Adrian (Mich.) on Wednesday and Saturday's loss to the Auggies. 


FOR THE FOES
• Katie Abbott scored a power-play goal from Brooke Webber at the 15:35 mark of the first period for the Mustangs.
• Madison Lange scored an unassisted goal at the 18:56 mark of the third period.
• Sarah Modzelewski had 18 saves in 31 minutes in goal, with Caitie Darosa recording 13 saves in 29 minutes of relief.
