Jira's late goal lifts Auggies to victory

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Brigette Jira (SO, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) scored the eventual game-winning goal with 1:30 left in regulation time, lifting Augsburg College to a 2-1 win over host Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, Hamline 1
LOCATION: Paterson Field, St. Paul, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 11-2-0 overall (6-1-0 MIAC), Hamline 8-5-1 overall (3-4-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Jira took a left-to-right feed from Ashley St. Aubin (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) and deposited the ball in the net for her first goal of the season and the eventual game-winning goal at the 88:30 mark.
• The Auggies scored first at the 37:00 mark, when Rayni Pemble (JR, Anoka, Minn.) scored her fourth goal of the season, a crossing shot from right to left.
• Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 19-5 margin -- 9-2 in the first half and 10-3 in the second half.
• Marissa Guillou (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had two saves in 54 minutes of work, and Emily Chapman (FY, Elburn, Ill./Kaneland HS) recorded one save in the final 36 minutes, claiming her first collegiate victory.
• Marta Anderson (SR, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) had seven shots in the game, while St. Aubin had four shots.

FOR THE FOES
• Arendje Louter scored on a breakaway shot in the 66th minute for the lone goal for the Pipers.
• Amy Ramras had 11 saves in goal for Hamline.

QUOTE FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH MIKE NAVARRE:
• "I thought we showed a lot of character today. After Hamline equalized in the second half, the players continued to play hard and increased their determination. I am happy for Brigette. Ashley was keen to find Brigette on a switch and Brigette did well to propel the ball past the defender and beat Hamline's goalkeeper -- who had made a spectacular save on her earlier in the second half. Today was a physical game. We will have to recover quickly to be ready for Northwestern on Monday."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts Northwestern-St. Paul in a nonconference game on Monday (10/17) at 7 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
• Hamline travels to face Martin Luther in a nonconference game on Tuesday (10/18) at 3:30 p.m.
