Late goal stops Augsburg win streak

MINNEAPOLIS -- A goal in the 73rd minute lifted Macalester College to a 1-0 win over the Augsburg College women's soccer team on Saturday in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action, snapping Augsburg's five-game winning streak.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Macalester 1, Augsburg 0
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 13-3-0 overall (7-2-0 MIAC), Macalester 9-3-3 overall (4-3-2 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg outshot Macalester by a 14-7 margin and had nine corner kicks to Macalester's one, but could not score against Macalester goalkeeper Emma Toomer, who had four saves in a shutout effort. Augsburg had just four shots on-goal in the game.
• The loss snapped Augsburg's five-game winning streak, but the Auggies still are in good position in the pursuit of a spot in the six-team MIAC postseason playoffs. Augsburg has 21 points in league play, sitting in second place behind St. Thomas' 25 points, and three points ahead of third-place Bethel's 18. The top two teams in the final regular-season standings receive a first-round bye in the playoffs.
• Ashley St. Aubin (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) had six shots in the game for the Auggies, including three shots on-frame. Marta Anderson (SR, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) had two shots.
• Goalkeeper Marissa Guillou (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had one save in the first half, while Emily Chapman (FY, Elburn, Ill./Kaneland HS) had two saves in the second half.

FOR THE FOES
• Rae Hohle scored the lone goal of the game at the 72:48 mark, lifting a floating shot over Chapman from 30 yards out.
• Natalie Prescott had two shots for Macalester.

QUOTE FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH MIKE NAVARRE:
• "We take responsibility for the loss. Macalester was organized and difficult for us to breakdown. We had more of the ball, more shots, etc. but still did not play well enough to win."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts St. Olaf on Wednesday (10/26) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
• Macalester travels to face Saint Benedict on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
