BLAINE, Minn. -- Augsburg College and Hamline University opened the 2016-17 men's hockey season with a 2-2, overtime tie in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Showcase on Friday evening, with the Auggies winning the shootout 1-0 in three rounds.

Eric Brenk (SO, Moorhead, Minn.) and
Corbin Chapman (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) scored goals for the Auggies in regulation time, and Chapman scored the lone goal of the three-round shootout. The game is officially recorded as a tie for records and statistics.

Jordyn Kaufer (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) claimed 24 saves in goal in regulation time, then made saves on all three shootout shots he faced.
• Trailing 1-0 after one period, Augsburg struck at the 2:19 mark of the second period, as Brenk scored off a successful faceoff draw by
Evan Hesse (JR, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS.
Andy Faust (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) fed Brenk in front for the goal.
• Chapman gave the Auggies a 2-1 lead at the 8:58 mark of the third period, collecting a pass from right to left from
Trevor Stewart (SR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Eastmont HS) and putting the puck home.
Eli May (JR, Eagan, Minn.) also assisted on the goal.
• Augsburg claimed a 38-26 advantage in shots on-goal in the game, including a 5-1 edge in overtime.
Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had seven shots for the Auggies, with Stewart recording four shots.
FOR THE FOES
• Brandon Wahlin opened the scoring for the Pipers with a goal from Mitch McPherson and Russ Jordan at the 4:06 mark of the first period.
• Parsa Monsef tied the game at 2-2 with a goal at the 16:04 mark of the third period, assisted by Jaycob McCombs.
• Justin Quale had 36 saves in goal for Hamline.
