Auggies compete at Trinity Invitational

BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 | BOXSCORE 3 | BOXSCORE 4 SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Augsburg College volleyball team finished with a 1-3 record at the competitive Trinity Invitational wrapping up the regular season for the squad. With the Auggies regular season conference championship, Augsburg will host a MIAC semifinal contest on Thursday, Nov. 3 against winner of the Bethel vs Saint Mary's quarterfinal. Libero Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE:
 Augsburg 3, UMass-Boston 2 (25-19, 25-22, 17-25, 24-26, 16-14)
LOCATION: Mabee Gymnasium, San Antonio, Texas 
RECORDS: Augsburg 18-6 overall, UMass-Boston 23-4 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UMASS-BOSTON
• Augsburg was able to claim victories in the first two sets, but UMass-Boston rallied for victories in the third and fourth sets. The Auggies jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the final set and forced two early UMass-Boston timeouts, but the Beacons tied things up at 14-14, forcing an Augsburg timeout. A kill from Jaelyn Arndt (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and a huge block by Arndt and Taylor Linn (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) sealed the big victory for the Auggies.
• Arndt led the Auggies with 17 kills on 37 attempts, a .324 hitting percentage.
• Setter Courtney Lemke (SR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) posted a match-high 42 assists, while adding 16 digs and a kill.
• The Augsburg defense was sparked by a match-high four blocks from Katie Noble (FY, Cannon Falls, Minn.), who also posted a team-best .429 hitting percentage with seven kills. Defensive specialist Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) collected 21 digs to lead all players in the match.
• The Auggies recorded a .156 hitting percentage, while the Beacons hit .180. Augsburg picked up 72 digs, while UMass-Boston collected 61 digs in the match

FOR THE FOES (UMass-Boston)
• The Beacons finished with four players with double-digit kills led by Eileen Shi, who posted 12 kills on 41 attempts.
• The setting duo of Pepper Baker and Christina Elliott teamed up for 41 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST TRINITY
• Augsburg was able to claim victories in the first two sets, but Trinity claimed decisive wins in the third and fourth sets forcing the decisive fifth set. The fifth set was too close to call in regulation, with both teams taking leads in the final few points. Unfortunately for the Auggies, Trinity was able to score when they needed to and claimed the 19-17 win. 
• The Auggie offense finished with four players posting double-digit kills, led by 16 from Linn and a career-high tying 10 from Sydnie Zachary (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS).
• Setter Courtney Lemke (SR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) posted a season-high 55 assists, while adding 14 digs and a season-high six kills.
• The Augsburg defense was led by Morgan Malley (SO, Harmony, Minn./Filmore Central HS) and Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) who picked up 23 and 21 digs respectively. The team-high 23 digs for Malley was a also a season-high mark. 
• The Auggies recorded a .183 hitting percentage, while Trinity hit .200. Augsburg picked up 103 digs, while Trinity collected 100 digs in the match

FOR THE FOES (Trinity)
• Trinity finished with four players with double-digit kills, led by Madeline McKay, who posted 20 kills and added eight digs.
• Erika Edrington posted 56 assists and added 14 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HARDIN-SIMMONS
• In a match that saw 24 tied scores and 15 lead changes, the Auggies were able to out-block and out-dig the opponent but fell just short in dropping a hard-fought match to Hardin-Simmons.
Jordan Weeding (JR, Greenfield, Minn./Rockford HS) and Taylor Linn (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) paced the Auggie offense with nine kills apiece. 
• Defensively, Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) picked up a match-high 20 digs, while DeeDee Maier (SR, Middleton, Minn.) added 10 digs.
• Setter Courtney Lemke (SR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) dished out 33 assists, while adding 12 digs.
• The Auggies posted a .111 hitting percentage, while Hardin-Simmons hit .157. Augsburg picked up 62 digs and 6.0 team blocks, while Hadin-Simmons collected 51 digs and 5.0 team blocks.

FOR THE FOES (Hardin-Simmons)
• Hardin-Simmons was led offensively by Allison Kuster, who posted a match-high 11 kills on 35 attempts.
• Setter Ashley Pierce recorded 33 assists and added nine digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR
Bridget Bednar (JR, Periz, Minn.) led the Augsburg offense, posting a season-high 17 kills on 30 attempts with a team-best .500 hitting percentage.
Taylor Linn (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) also finished with double-digit kills, posting 12 kills on 26 attempts.
• Defensively, Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) and DeeDee Maier (SR, Middleton, Minn.) picked up 15 digs apiece to pace Augsburg.
• Setter Courtney Lemke (SR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) dished out 41 assists, while Hannah Gibbemeyer (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) added six assists.
• The Auggies posted a .181 hitting percentage, while Mary Hardin-Baylor hit .286. Augsburg claimed a 60-51 advantage in digs but was out-blocked nine-to-two. 

FOR THE FOES (Mary Hardin-Baylor)
• Mary Hardin-Baylor was led by Miranda Klien, who posted 15 kills on nine assists, eight digs and four blocks (one solo).
• Haleigh collected a match-high 18 digs.
