Auggies drop game for "The Hammer" at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Outgained by a 400-to-231 margin, the Augsburg College football team fell 35-14 to Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Klas Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was a close one early, as Augsburg took a 6-0 lead on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Quentin Lake (FY, Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) to Cyrus Elliott (SR, Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) at the 8:56 mark of the first quarter.
• But Hamline rattled off 35 unanswered points after the Auggie score to take back "The Hammer," the traveling trophy between the two teams in the rivalry game. Augsburg has a 9-3 record in games against Hamline since the traveling trophy was established in the 2005 season.
• Hamline outgained Augsburg by a 400-231 margin, including a 317-to-242 advantage in passing. Hamline held Augsburg to minus-11 yards rushing, taking advantage of 3.0 sacks and 9.0 tackles for-loss.
• Augsburg's final score of the game came at the 10:49 mark of the fourth quarter, when Shannon Storley (SO, Waconia, Minn.) completed a five-yard touchdown pass to Nick Heenie (SO, Victoria, Minn./Waconia HS). Storley converted a two-point rush to cap the scoring.
• Heenie led the Auggies with 10 catches for 77 yards, while Nahjai Brown (JR, Roseville, Minn.) caught six passes for 65 yards and Elliott caught four passes for 61 yards.
• Lake completed 17-of-33 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown, while Storley completed 7-of-19 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown against two interceptions.
• Defensively, Daulton Olinger (JR, Spring Lake Park, Minn.), Jabri Guy (SO, Moline, Ill./Eagan (Minn.) HS) and Barclay Bates (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had nine tackles each. Bates had 2.0 tackles for-loss and a fumble recovery.
• Lorenzo Hernandez (SO, New Ulm, Minn.) had eight tackles, including a sack, Steven O'Brien (SO, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) had a sack and Matt Bowlin (SR, Chanhassen, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had an interception and 32-yard return.

FOR THE FOES
• Justice Spriggs completed 24-of-30 passing for 317 yards and five touchdowns -- three going to Nick Kampa, who caught seven passes for 124 yards.
• Deon Bishop caught five passes for 82 yards and a touchdown, and Josiah Harris caught four passes for 72 yards and a touchdown.
• Noah Jacobsen and Luke Trudell had six tackles each for the Pipers, while Drake Singleton and Mitchell Maday had five tackles, with Maday recording two sacks.
