Auggies drop contest to nationally-ranked Johnnies

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jermaine Borward (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Tartan HS) and Derek Glynn (FY, Faribault, Minn.) had 1.5 sacks each in the Augsburg College football team's 49-0 loss to Saint John's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint John's, ranked No. 11 in the D3football.com Division III national poll and No. 13 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III national poll, scored 21 points in the first quarter to take the lead for good. The Johnnies outgained the Auggies by a 436-128 margin in the game. 
• Borward and Glynn combined for three quarterback sacks to lead the Augsburg defense. Glynn had 2.0 tackles for-loss, while Borward had 1.5 tackles for-loss.
• Sam Keis (SR, Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels HS) started at quarterback and played in the first half, completing 9-of-19 passes for 71 yards. Shannon Storley (SO, Waconia, Minn.) played in the second half, completing 7-of-13 passing for 39 yards.
• Raymond Guyton Jr. (SO, Stockton, Calif./St. Mary's HS) caught 10 passes for 76 yards to lead the Auggie offense. Antonio VandenBosch-Romo (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) rushed eight times for 20 yards.
• Defensively, Lorenzo Hernandez (SO, New Ulm, Minn.) led the Auggies with eight tackles (two solo), while Jacob Bom (SO, Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka HS) had seven tackles (five solo) and a forced fumble.
• Borward, Glynn, Barclay Bates (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) and Clayton Byrd (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had six tackles each, with Byrd adding a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Jabri Guy (SO, Moline, Ill./Eagan (Minn.) HS) also had a fumble recovery.

FOR THE FOES
• Saint John's scored on its first play from scrimmage in the game -- a 54-yard pass from Ben Alvord to Evan Clark. The Johnnies also scored on a blocked punt by Dusty Krueger, and Krueger added a three-yard touchdown run to give his squad a 21-0 lead after one quarter.
• Nine different Johnnies rushed the ball, combining for 246 yards on 51 carries. Zack Sundly had seven carries for 46 yards, and Krueger had eight carries for 55 yards.
• Alvord completed 12-of-15 passing for 190 yards in the game, with Evan Clark catching three passes for 109 yards.
• Carter Hanson led the Johnnie defense with 10 tackles. The Johnnies combined for six quarterback sacks -- 3.0 by Nathan Brinker, 2.0 by Drew Glenzinski and 1.0 by Ted Kalina. The Johnnies also scored defensively on a one-yard interception return by Parker Anderson in the fourth quarter.
