St. Aubin MIAC Rookie of Year, 6 Auggies earn league honors

2016 MIAC WOMEN'S SOCCER AWARDS

MINNEAPOLIS – Six Augsburg College women's soccer players earned postseason honors from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, including conference Rookie of the Year Ashley St. Aubin (FY, Burnsville, Minn.), it was announced on Thursday.
 
Augsburg had three All-MIAC honorees – tied for second most among MIAC teams: St. Aubin, Marta Anderson (SR, Mankato, Minn./East HS) and Emily Gregg (SR, River Falls, Wis.). Carter Denison (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and Ciara Gregory (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) were named All-MIAC Honorable Mention, and Trine Boeystad (FY, Rykkinn, Norway/Nadderud VGS) was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
 
It's the third MIAC honor for Anderson, who was named All-MIAC in 2015 and All-MIAC Honorable Mention in 2014. Gregg and Denison were selected All-MIAC Honorable Mention in 2015. It's the first MIAC honors for the remaining three Auggies.
 
11623The lone first-year selection among the 20 players named to the All-MIAC squad, St. Aubin has had an incredible collegiate debut with the Auggies, leading the conference's overall statistics in both goals (15) and points (37) – the third straight year that an Auggie has led the league in both categories – while adding seven assists, tied for third-most among MIAC players. In MIAC games-only, her seven goals and 16 points were both third-best. Her nine game-winning goals this season led the MIAC and is tied for the most among NCAA Division III players nationally.
 
A forward, St. Aubin has had a goal or assist in 15 of her 21 games this season, averaging 72.9 minutes played per-game (1,531 minutes played). Her 37 points are fourth-most in a single season in school history, while her 15 goals are also third-most. She is the top scorer on an offense that has recorded 48 goals this season – tops among MIAC teams.
 
11604Anderson has recorded six goals and seven assists for 19 points in her senior season, including the lone goal in Augsburg's 1-0, MIAC playoff championship game victory at St. Thomas on Nov. 5, Augsburg's second MIAC playoff title and second berth in the NCAA Division III national tournament in the last three years. Her seven assists are tied for third-most among MIAC players, while her six goals are 13th-most and her 19 points are 14th-most.
 
She has played in 1,652 minutes this season (78.7 minutes per-game), second-most on the team. In her 80 career games (79 starts), she has 17 goals and 29 assists for 63 points – second in school history in career assists, eighth in points and tied for 11th in goals. She also earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-North Region third-team honors last season.
 
11612Gregg has developed a reputation as one of the best defensive sweepers in the MIAC – the last line of defense between the opponent's offense and the goalkeeper. She was part of a defense that helped produce 14 team shutouts, while allowing just eight goals and a 0.38 team goals against-average – all three totals second-best among MIAC teams. Augsburg's team GAA is 17th-best among NCAA Division III teams nationally, and its 14 shutouts are tied for 11th-most in Division III.
 
Gregg's 1,797 minutes played (85.6 minutes per-game) has led the team. In her 80 career games (78 starts), she has three goals and seven assists for 13 points, including two goals and an assist for five points this season.
 
11608A forward, Denison will cap her career as one of the top scorers in school history. She has six goals and six assists for 18 points this season – eighth in assists, 13th in goals and 15th in points among MIAC players in overall statistics. She has recorded a goal or assist in eight games this year, including a one-goal, three-assist performance in Augsburg's 7-0 win over Minnesota-Morris on Sept. 10.
 
In her 78-game career (70 starts), she has 24 goals and 22 assists for 70 points, ranking sixth in school history in career points, and tied for seventh in both goals and assists.
 
11613Gregory also made a strong impact in her collegiate debut season, with five goals and five assists for 15 points to her credit. A forward/midfielder, Gregory has had a goal or assist in eight games this season, including a goal and an assist in Augsburg's 3-0 win over Saint Benedict on Sept. 28.
 
11605Boeystad was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, as part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. A defender, Boeystad has had an assist in 20 games this season, playing in 1,378 minutes (68.9 minutes per-game), the fifth-most minutes played on the team.
 
Under 18th-year head coach Mike Navarre, Augsburg enters the NCAA Division III national tournament with a 17-4-0 overall record, 10-1-0 in MIAC play. It's Augsburg's 10th double-digit win campaign – and fifth in a row – in Navarre's 18-year tenure.
 
Augsburg will face the Milwaukee (Wis.) School of Engineering in its opening-round NCAA tournament game on Saturday (11/12) at 1:30 p.m. at the University of Chicago (Ill.).
