Auggies fall 67-65 to Buena Vista University

BOXSCORE STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team fell 67-65 at Buena Vista University in nonconference action on Saturday evening at Siebens Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game featured 10 lead changes and three tied scores in a battle between two quality opponents. The Auggies were in striking distance within the final three minutes, trailing by five with 2:50 to play, but were never able to regain the lead as BVU hung on for a two-point victory.
• Collin Olmscheid (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) continued his strong start to the season, posting his second point-rebound double-double in as many games. Olmscheid posted 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, while adding 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
• Chuckie Smith (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) continued to make an impact for the Auggies in the young season, recording 16 points, including a 4-of-8 effort from three-point range.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Nick Varner (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS), who put up 12 points and added three rebounds.
• Richie Perea (SR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) pulled down seven rebounds, while Kevin McKiernan (SO, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) dished out four assists to lead Augsburg.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 33.3 percent (20-of-60), while Buena Vista converted on 48.1 percent (25-of-52) of its shot attempts. The Beavers claimed a 42-37 advantage on the boards, while the Auggies held a 10-17 advantage in the turnover battle.

FOR THE FOES
• The Beavers finished with three players in double figures, led by Sean Morgan, who finished with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor.
• Kennedy Drey posted a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, while adding six assists, a block and a steal for Buena Vista.

• Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (11/22), when the Auggies play at Concordia-St. Paul in an exhibition contest at 7 p.m.
• Buena Vista also returns to action Tuesday (11/22), when the Beavers take on Nebraska-Omaha in an exhibition contest.
