Auggies top Oles 4-2, extend unbeaten streak to 9 straight

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Nate Flynn (JR, Hastings, Minn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal 18 seconds into the third period, as the Augsburg College men's hockey extended its unbeaten streak to nine straight games to open the season with a 4-2 win over St. Olaf College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Flynn had a goal and assist, as one of seven different Auggies that figured in the scoring in the victory. His goal 18 seconds into the third period gave Augsburg a 3-1 advantage, assisted by Rory Vesel (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) and Eli May (JR, Eagan, Minn.).
Will Peterson (JR, Eagan, Minn.) opened the scoring for the Auggies with a goal 3:28 into the game, assisted by Chris Nuth (SR, Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Mission Viejo HS). Corbin Chapman (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal at the 13:20 mark of the first period, assisted by Flynn.
• The Oles trimmed the lead to 2-1 just 40 seconds after Chapman's goal, then trimmed the lead to 3-2 at the 2:42 mark of the third period, but the Auggies clinched the win with an empty-net, unassisted goal by Drew Anderson (JR, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) with 36 seconds left in the game.
• Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 35-29 margin. Jordyn Kaufer (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) picked up the win in goal for the Auggies, making 27 saves.
• Chapman had seven shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Adam Pancoast (JR, Thief River Falls, Minn.) and Vesel had four shots each.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg, the defending MIAC regular-season and playoff champions, is ranked No. 6 in both major Division III national polls -- the U.S. College Hockey Online poll and the D3hockey.com poll.
• Augsburg is one of just three NCAA Division III men's hockey programs still unbeaten to start the season, along with Oswego State (N.Y.) at 8-0-0 and Hamilton (N.Y.) at 4-0-1.
• Fourteen different Auggies have scored goals this season, and 21 different Auggies have either a goal or assist. 

FOR THE FOES
• WIll Dittrich scored from John Feemster at the 14:00 mark of the second period for St. Olaf, and Tuukka Totro scored a power-play goal from J.T. Paine and Drew Otto at the 2:42 mark of the third period.
• Eric Hancock had 30 saves in goal for the Oles.
