McKiernan leads Auggies past Martin Luther

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin McKiernan (SO, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) scored a career-high 26 points to lead the the Augsburg College men's basketball team to its fourth straight win, an 89-67 victory over Martin Luther College in nonconference action on Monday night at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies scored a season-high 89 points, while shooting a season-best 56.1 percent (32-of-57) from the floor in the victory over Martin Luther. Seventeen different Auggies saw action in the contest, with 13 factoring into the scoring.
• Augsburg used a key 11-2 run midway through the first half to extend its lead to double digits and took a 41-29 lead into the locker room at intermission. In the second half, Augsburg connected on an impressive 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the floor and grew its lead to as many as 27 before cruising on to the 89-67 win.
• McKiernan recorded his game-high 26 points on an 8-of-12 shooting night, which included a 6-of-9 effort from three-point range. He also added four rebounds, two assists and a steal. McKiernan has now scored in double figures in three consecutive games.
• Augsburg was led on the boards by Collin Olmscheid (JR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS), who pulled down a game-high seven rebounds, while scoring 17 points on a 7-for-10 shooting effort.
Richie Perea (SR, Colorado, Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) tied a career-high with nine assists, while adding three rebounds.
• The Auggies claimed a 27-13 advantage in points off-turnovers and a 54-34 advantage in bench scoring.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 56.1 percent (32-of-57) from the field, while Martin Luther was held to 39.0 percent (23-of-59) shooting from the floor.
• Augsburg claimed a 39-32 advantage on the boards.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg's win is its fourth consecutive, with one game remaining prior to the winter break.

FOR THE FOES
• The Knights finished with two players in double figures, led by Josh Tomlin, who came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the floor.
• Jeffrey Parker pulled down a team-high five rebounds, while adding nine points and six assists.
