Early deficit costs Auggies in loss at St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Surrendering an early double-digit deficit, the Augsburg College women's basketball team was unable to rally back in a 67-45 loss at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening at Schoenecker Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Thomas scored the first nine points of the game and took a 21-4 lead after the first quarter, as Augsburg hit just 2-of-12 from the field, compared to 6-of-11 for the Tommies. St. Thomas extended its lead to 31-6 in the first 3:31 of the second quarter and led 36-19 at halftime. 
Hannah Steinhaus (SO, Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS) was the lone Auggie to score in double figures, scoring 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
Allison McKee (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Alaina Quaranta (FY, Eau Claire, Wis./North HS) scored seven points each.
Bridget Bednar (SO, Pierz, Minn.) scored six points, and 
Jessica Lillquist (SR, Sebeka, Minn.) had a team-high four rebounds.
• The Auggies connected on 41.3 percent (19-of-46) from the field in the game, while St. Thomas hit 51.1 percent (23-of-45).
• St. Thomas scored 27 points off of 17 Augsburg turnovers, while the Auggies scored 13 points off of 16 St. Thomas turnovers.


FOR THE FOES
• St. Thomas was paced by Katie Stone, who scored 16 points. Lauren Fischer scored 11 points with two steals.
• Kaitlin Langer scored 14 points with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
• St. Thomas entered the game ranked No. 8 in the latest D3hoops.com Division III national poll, and No. 11 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association/USA Today Division III national poll.
