St. Thomas scores 4-1 win over Augsburg

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Kayla Fuechtmann (SR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) scored the lone goal of the game for Augsburg College in the second periood, but the Auggies dropped a 4-1 decision to the University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday evening at the St. Thomas Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Fuechtmann scored her ninth goal of the season at the 10:55 mark of the second period, assisted by Claire Cripps (SR, Hutchinson, Minn.) and Danielle Heitkamp (JR, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS). 
• Augsburg was outshot by a 35-17 margin in the game. Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) recorded 31 saves in goal for the Auggies.
• Fuechtmann had five shots in-goal for the Auggies, while Megan Johnson (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) had four shots and Heitkamp had three shots.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With the loss, Augsburg now drops to a tie for second place in the MIAC standings with 20 points, a point behind St. Thomas. 

• Augsburg did not allow a power-play goal in two St. Thomas opportunities on Friday. So far this season, Augsburg's 91.2 percent penalty kill (62-of-68) is second-best among MIAC teams and ninth-best among NCAA Division III teams nationally.

FOR THE FOES
• Leah Schwartzman, Becca Zarembinski and Hannah Burns had a goal and assist each for St. Thomas, with Courtney Umland adding the other Tommie goal.
• The Tommies scored twice in the first period and twice in the third period.

• Mackenzie Torpy had 16 saves in goal for St. Thomas.
