Auggies edge closer to MIAC playoff spot

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team edged closer to a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoff berth with a 60-45 victory over Macalester College on Wednesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tied 11-11 after the first quarter, the Auggies slowly pulled away from the Scots to secure the 15-point win. An 8-1 run to start the third quarter gave Augsburg its first double-digit lead of the game, an advantage it stretched to as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter.
• Allison McKee (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) led the way for the Auggies with a season-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, adding seven rebounds, five assists and a steal.
• Jenna Orth (SR, Melrose, Minn.) claimed her third career double-double, scoring 11 points with 13 rebounds and three steals.
• Jessica Lillquist (SR, Sebeka, Minn.) scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, adding five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
• Hannah Steinhaus (SO, Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS) and  scored eight points each.

• The Auggies connected on 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the field, compared to 33.3 percent (15-of-45) for the Scots.
• Augsburg outrebounded Carleton by a 41-27 margin in the game. Augsburg pulled down 12 offensive rebounds and scored eight second-chance points. Augsburg also converted 26 points in the paint, compared to 18 for the Scots.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg is one win away from securing its second straight MIAC postseason playoff berth. The Auggies will face Saint Benedict (14-10 overall, 9-8 MIAC) on Saturday at 3 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn., with the winner clinching the final spot in the six-team playoffs.
• Augsburg has won four of its last five games. The Auggies' 14 wins are tied for the second-most wins in a single season in program history, behind last year's 15-12 finish.


FOR THE FOES
• Regan Fruh and Erin Murray scored 13 points each for Macalester. Murray had six rebounds and two steals, while Fruh had five rebounds.
• Leah Gray had five points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.

• Augsburg travels to face Saint Benedict on Saturday at 3 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn.
