Augsburg drops wild 24-15 decision at Westminster

FULTON, Mo. -- The Augsburg College baseball team finished its season-opening series at Westminster College (Mo.) with a wild game that produced 31 hits and 39 runs between the two teams, a 24-15 Westminster victory on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Eight of the 11 field players who saw action in the game for Augsburg recorded base hits, and the Auggies used seven pitchers in the contest.
• Billy Brookshaw (SR, Prescott, Wis.) went 3-for-5 with a run scored and four RBI, while Bryce Pruszinske (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) and Mike Brookshaw (FY, Prescott, Wis.) had two hits each, with each hitting a home run.
• Augsburg scored three runs in the third inning, with Mike Brookshaw hitting a run-scoring single and Billy Brookshaw hitting a two-run single.
• The Auggies sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the fourth inning. Pruszinske led off the inning with a solo home run, while two runs came across on bases-loaded walks and two more came in off of a throwing error.
• Six more runs came across in the fifth inning, as the Auggies sent 10 batters to the plate again. Bryan Benson (JR, St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo HS) and Billy Brookshaw plated runs on fielder's choices, Steven Piette (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) hit a two-run double, and Pruszinske hit a run-scoring single.
• Mike Brookshaw hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to cap the Auggie scoring. 


FOR THE FOES
• Westminster took advantage of several big innings to claim the win, scoring three runs in the second inning, eight in the fourth inning, three in the fifth inning and seven runs in the bottom of the eighth.
• Nick Bohlmann and Nolan Bax had four hits each for the Blue Jays, while Connor Hager had two hits and five RBI, including a grand-slam home run in the eighth inning.
• Adam Mundle scored five runs and drove in four, while Tanner Branneky scored three runs and drove in four.


UP NEXT
• Augsburg is now idle until March 12-18, when it plays 10 games at the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational.
