Augsburg claims 83-73 triumph at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Scoring a career-high 25 points, Brett Rasmussen (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) led the Augsburg College men's basketball team in an 83-73 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at Hamline University on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rasmussen scored 25 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and 10-of-12 shooting from the free-throw line, while adding seven rebounds, a career-high four assists and two steals.
Collin Olmscheid (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) scored 23 points -- his third straight 20-plus-point effort and seventh of the season -- with four rebounds.
• Augsburg led for all but 25 seconds in the game. The Auggies jumped out to a 15-5 lead over the first 4:11 of the game, expanding the lead to 39-29 at halftime. The Pipers trimmed the lead to four points in the opening 3:24 of the second half, but Augsburg used a 26-9 run to take a 70-49 advantage with 9:05 remaining, its largest lead of the game.
Joe Zangel (SR, Richfield, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) scored 12 points with two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Richie Perea (JR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) scored eight points with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
• Augsburg shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55) from the field -- its 10th game, and third in a row, shooting 50 percent or better from the field.
• Augsburg forced 13 Hamline turnovers, which it converted into 15 points.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With five games remaining in the regular season, Augsburg's 12 overall wins this season has topped last year's 11-14 overall record. Augsburg has reached double-digit victories in 10 straight seasons under head coach Aaron Griess.


FOR THE FOES
• Connor Knutson led the Pipers with 18 points and six rebounds.
• T.C. Robinson scored 17 points with five rebounds and two steals.
• Bret Lukes scored 13 points with four rebounds.
