Auggies shine in 8-2 win over Pipers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Nate Flynn (SO, Hastings, Minn.) and Drew Allen (SR, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) scored two goals each for Augsburg College, as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey leaders poured on the goals in an 8-2 win over Hamline University on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Eleven different Auggies figured in the scoring in Friday's win. It's Augsburg's 11th game of the season -- and ninth in its last 12 games -- scoring four goals or more.
• Extending his consecutive-game point streak to four straight games, Flynn claimed his fourth multi-goal game of the season with a two-goal, one-assist performance. He scored at the 10:44 mark of the first period from Lucas Hendrickson (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS), then scored at the 8:12 mark of the third period from Andy Faust (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and Hendrickson.
• Allen recorded his second multi-goal game of the season with two third-period goals. He scored at the 3:02 mark from Dylan Meier (JR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) and Hendrickson, then scored at the 12:34 mark from Max Pernhem (SO, Stockholm, Sweden/Dragonskolan) and Faust.
• Hendrickson claimed a career-best four-assist game. He also assisted on a goal from Lukas Gillett (FY, Rosemount, Minn.) at the 16:30 mark of the second period, also assisted by Trevor Stewart (JR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Eastmont HS).
Eric Brenk (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) opened the scoring for the Auggies with a goal at the 13:54 mark of the first period, assisted by Evan Hesse (SO, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS). Mack Ohnsted (SR, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead at the 16:48 mark of the first period, assisted by Faust and Flynn.
• Faust claimed his first three-assist game of his college hockey career on Friday. He played last season at the U.S. Military Academy.
• Stewart claimed his third multi-point game of the season with an unassisted goal at the 1:02 mark of the third period.
• Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 39-30 margin, including a 13-5 advantage in the first period. 
• Jordyn Kaufer (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) improved to 12-4-0 on the season with a 28-save effort in goal for the Auggies.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With 28 points in the MIAC standings, first-place Augsburg maintained its four-point lead over St. Thomas (24 points). The Tommies scored a 5-3 win at Concordia-Moorhead on Friday, rallying from a 3-0 deficit with five third-period goals.
• Augsburg's eight goals were its most scored in a single game since a 9-2 win over Northland (Wis.) on Nov. 22, 2013. It's the most goals Augsburg has scored in an MIAC game since a 9-4 win at Bethel on Feb. 8, 2013.
• Flynn's 27 points (15 goals, 12 assists) are fourth-most among MIAC players in overall statistics. His 15 goals are third-most, and his 12 assists are tied for seventh-most.
• Kaufer stands second among MIAC goalies in overall goals-against-average (2.18) and third in save percentage (.918). His 12 wins are tied for second-most among all NCAA Division III goalies nationally.

• Hamline was unable to score on two power-play opportunities. Augsburg has now not surrendered a power-play goal in eight straight games. The Auggies have killed 32 straight penalties, dating to its 5-2 win over Bethel on Jan. 8.
• Augsburg's has allowed just seven goals in 68 power-play opportunities this season, with its 89.7 penalty-kill percentage tops among MIAC teams and eighth-best among NCAA Division III teams nationally. Augsburg's combined special teams percentage of 59.2 (13-of-57 power play, 61-of-68 penalty kill) is second-best among NCAA Division III teams nationally.


FOR THE FOES
• Kevin Novakovich scored an unassisted goal for Hamline at the 17:46 mark of the second period, and Jesse Kessler scored from Dan Bartkowiak at the 17:58 mark of the third period.
• John Sellie-Hanson had 31 saves in goal for the Pipers.
