Auggies move into 1st place in MIAC with sweep of Pipers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) recorded her fifth shutout victory in her last seven games in goal, as her Augsburg College women's hockey team moved into first place in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 4-0 win over Hamline University on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Allen claimed her 14th career shutout, and fifth as an Auggie, stopping all 26 shots she faced in the Auggie victory. She has allowed just two goals in her last seven starts in goal, and is now 10-6-2 on the season.
• Augsburg scored twice in a 2:34 span to take a 2-0 lead in the first period. Megan Robertson (SO, Boissevain, Manitoba) scored from Claire Cripps (SR, Hutchinson, Minn.) at the 12:47 mark, and Callen Naasz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) scored from Megan Johnson (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) and Sarah Buckner (SR, Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) at the 15:21 mark.
Darby Lindgren (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scored from Kayla Fuechtmann (SR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) 17 seconds into the second period, giving the Auggies a 3-0 lead.
• Cripps capped the scoring for the Auggies with a goal at the 6:13 mark of the third period, scoring from Valerie Whichello (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East View HS).
• Hamline outshot Augsburg by a 28-23 margin in the game. Lindgren had five shots on-goal to lead the Auggies.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With two series left in the regular season, Augsburg now leads the MIAC standings with 20 points, a point ahead of second-place St. Thomas, which split in a home series with Concordia-Moorhead this weekend. Augsburg and St. Thomas meet in a series next weekend.
• Allen's five shutouts are now tied for the second-most in a single season in a school history. Kristin Johnson holds the single-season school record with six shutouts in the 2002-03 season.
• Allen's 10 wins this season (10-6-2) are also tied for the second-most in a single season in school history. Meg Schmidt holds the single-season school record with 17 wins (17-6-1) in 1999-2000.
• Allen stands second among MIAC goalies in overall statistics with a 1.42 goals against-average, while her .941 save percentage is third-best. Her five shutouts are tied for sixth-most among NCAA Division III goalies nationally.

• With her assist, Johnson now stands in a tie for third-place among MIAC players in overall points with 16 (nine goals, seven assists). She's tied for the league lead among rookies in points, while leading the league in goals by rookies.
• Augsburg did not allow a power-play goal in six Hamline opportunities on Saturday. So far this season, Augsburg's 90.9 percent penalty kill (60-of-66) is second-best among MIAC teams and 10th-best among NCAA Division III teams nationally.

FOR THE FOES
• Jenny Magill had six shots on-goal for Hamline, while Brede Postier and Megan Lawry had four shots each.
• Jessica Cole had four saves in the first 20:17 in goal for the Pipers, with Mary Shefveland recording 15 saves the rest of the way.
