Auggies swept by La Verne in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Augsburg College baseball team was swept by the University of La Verne (Calif.) on Sunday at the Tucson Invitational, falling 13-4 and 6-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Brandon Schmahl (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and Eric Olheiser (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Tartan HS) each went 3-for-6 with an RBI for the Auggies in the doubleheader, while Steven Piette (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had two hits.
• Schmahl and Piette each went 2-for-4 in the first game. Bryce Pruszinske (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) hit a double for the Auggies.
• Olheiser went 2-for-3 for the Auggies in the second game, with Mike Brookshaw (FY, Prescott, Wis.) hitting a triple.
• Three Auggie pitchers threw in the first game, with Luke Chinn (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) taking the loss.
• In the second game, Jacob Kari (SO, North Branch, Minn.) pitched five innings, striking out three, with Jamin Hesby (FY, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) pitching two innings of relief.


FOR THE FOES
• Woody Reyes went 4-for-4 with two doubles for La Verne in the first game, while Andrew Douglas went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Reyes and Daniel McDonnell scored three runs each, with McDonnell hitting a three-run homer.
• Douglas went 3-for-4 for the Leopards in the second game, with Ben White and Nicholas Michaels hitting home runs.
